Ugh. I currently own a 2012 honda accord with 125000 miles on it. It’s okay but FAR from my dream car. I understand that it is an extremely reliable car.
The problem arises because I found the PERFECT car for me. It’s a 1992 keep Cherokee with about 385000 miles on it. Hear me out: it’s been EXCELLENTLY maintained. Garage kept, almost perfect maintenance record, one owner, no wrecks, the transmission just had some work and parts of the motor have recently been replaced.
It’s going for $8000 right now and if I sell my Honda, I could get about 6000 for it and pay the rest. I take really good care of cars and my husband is a mechanic so we can afford any possible repairs.
I’ve never been so obsessed with a car. I’ve always been so meh about looking at cars. However, i took one look at the jeep Cherokee and fell in love.
I’m just nervous because I could potentially give up a perfectly good and reliable car for a car that could last me less than a year.
Please help me make a decision logically and not emotionally. I understand this could be a life altering choice if I choose the wrong one.
TLDR: I’m in love with a really old, but well maintained, car with lots of miles. I’m scared to give up a really good car for the car of my dreams just because i like it.

The Airbus A300 is a wide-body airliner developed and manufactured by Airbus. In September 1967, aircraft manufacturers in the United Kingdom, France, and West Germany signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a large airliner. West Germany and France reached an agreement on 29 May 1969 after the British withdrew from the project on 10 April 1969. European collaborative aerospace manufacturer Airbus Industrie was formally created on 18 December 1970 to develop and produce it. The prototype first flew on 28 October 1972.
The first twin-engine widebody airliner, the A300 typically seats 247 passengers in two classes over a range of 5,375 to 7,500 km (2,900 to 4,050 nmi). Initial variants are powered by General Electric CF6-50 or Pratt & Whitney JT9D turbofans and have a three-crew flight deck. The improved A300-600 has a two-crew cockpit and updated CF6-80C2 or PW4000 engines; it made its first flight on 8 July 1983 and entered service later that year. The A300 is the basis of the smaller A310 (first flown in 1982) and was adapted in a freighter version. Its cross section was retained for the larger four-engined A340 (1991) and the larger twin-engined A330 (1992). It is also the basis for the oversize Beluga transport (1994).
Launch customer Air France introduced the type on 23 May 1974. After limited demand initially, sales took off as the type was proven in early service, beginning three decades of steady orders. It has a similar capacity to the Boeing 767-300, introduced in 1986, but lacked the 767-300ER range. During the 1990s, the A300 became popular with cargo aircraft operators, as both passenger airliner conversions and as original builds. Production ceased in July 2007 after 561 deliveries. As of March 2023, there were 228 A300 family aircraft in commercial service.
Origins:
During the 1960s, European aircraft manufacturers such as Hawker Siddeley and the British Aircraft Corporation, based in the UK, and Sud Aviation of France, had ambitions to build a new 200-seat airliner for the growing civil aviation market. While studies were performed and considered, such as a stretched twin-engine variant of the Hawker Siddeley Trident and an expanded development of the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) One-Eleven, designated the BAC Two-Eleven, it was recognized that if each of the European manufacturers were to launch similar aircraft into the market at the same time, neither would achieve sales volume needed to make them viable.[2] In 1965, a British government study, known as the Plowden Report, had found British aircraft production costs to be between 10% and 20% higher than American counterparts due to shorter production runs, which was in part due to the fractured European market. To overcome this factor, the report recommended the pursuit of multinational collaborative projects between the region's leading aircraft manufacturers.[3]: 49 [4][5]: 2–13
European manufacturers were keen to explore prospective programs; the proposed 260-seat wide-body HBN 100 between Hawker Siddeley, Nord Aviation, and Breguet Aviation being one such example.[2][6]: 37–38 National governments were also keen to support such efforts amid a belief that American manufacturers could dominate the European Economic Community;[7] in particular, Germany had ambitions for a multinational airliner project to invigorate its aircraft industry, which had declined considerably following the Second World War.[3]: 49–50 During the mid-1960s, both Air France and American Airlines had expressed interest in a short-haul twin-engine wide-body aircraft, indicating a market demand for such an aircraft to be produced.[3][8] In July 1967, during a high-profile meeting between French, German, and British ministers, an agreement was made for greater cooperation between European nations in the field of aviation technology, and "for the joint development and production of an airbus".[2][9]: 34 The word airbus at this point was a generic aviation term for a larger commercial aircraft, and was considered acceptable in multiple languages, including French.[9]: 34
Shortly after the July 1967 meeting, French engineer Roger Béteille was appointed as the technical director of what would become the A300 program, while Henri Ziegler, chief operating office of Sud Aviation, was appointed as the general manager of the organization and German politician Franz Josef Strauss became the chairman of the supervisory board.[2] Béteille drew up an initial work share plan for the project, under which French firms would produce the aircraft's cockpit, the control systems, and lower-center portion of the fuselage, Hawker Siddeley would manufacture the wings, while German companies would produce the forward, rear and upper part of the center fuselage sections. Addition work included moving elements of the wings being produced in the Netherlands, and Spain producing the horizontal tail plane.[2][6]: 38
An early design goal for the A300 that Béteille had stressed the importance of was the incorporation of a high level of technology, which would serve as a decisive advantage over prospective competitors. As such, the A300 would feature the first use of composite materials of any passenger aircraft, the leading and trailing edges of the tail fin being composed of glass fibre reinforced plastic.[5]: 2–16 [10] Béteille opted for English as the working language for the developing aircraft, as well against using Metric instrumentation and measurements, as most airlines already had US-built aircraft.[10] These decisions were partially influenced by feedback from various airlines, such as Air France and Lufthansa, as an emphasis had been placed on determining the specifics of what kind of aircraft that potential operators were seeking. According to Airbus, this cultural approach to market research had been crucial to the company's long-term success.[10]
Workshare and redefinition:
On 26 September 1967, the British, French, and West German governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding to start development of the 300-seat Airbus A300.[6]: 38 [11]: 43 [12]: 57 At this point, the A300 was only the second major joint aircraft programme in Europe, the first being the Anglo-French Concorde.[9] Under the terms of the memorandum, Britain and France were each to receive a 37.5 per cent work share on the project, while Germany received a 25 per cent share. Sud Aviation was recognized as the lead company for A300, with Hawker Siddeley being selected as the British partner company.[2] At the time, the news of the announcement had been clouded by the British Government's support for the Airbus, which coincided with its refusal to back BAC's proposed competitor, the BAC 2–11, despite a preference for the latter expressed by British European Airways (BEA).[9]: 34 Another parameter was the requirement for a new engine to be developed by Rolls-Royce to power the proposed airliner; a derivative of the in-development Rolls-Royce RB211, the triple-spool RB207, capable of producing of 47,500 lbf (211 kN).[13] The program cost was US$4.6 billion (in 1993 Dollars).[14]
In December 1968, the French and British partner companies (Sud Aviation and Hawker Siddeley) proposed a revised configuration, the 250-seat Airbus A250. It had been feared that the original 300-seat proposal was too large for the market, thus it had been scaled down to produce the A250.[5]: 2–14 [8][15] The dimensional changes involved in the shrink reduced the length of the fuselage by 5.62 metres (18.4 ft) and the diameter by 0.8 metres (31 in), reducing the overall weight by 25 tonnes (55,000 lb).[10][16]: 16 For increased flexibility, the cabin floor was raised so that standard LD3 freight containers could be accommodated side-by-side, allowing more cargo to be carried. Refinements made by Hawker Siddeley to the wing's design provided for greater lift and overall performance; this gave the aircraft the ability to climb faster and attain a level cruising altitude sooner than any other passenger aircraft.[10] It was later renamed the A300B.[9]: 34 [15]
Perhaps the most significant change of the A300B was that it would not require new engines to be developed, being of a suitable size to be powered by Rolls-Royce's RB211, or alternatively the American Pratt & Whitney JT9D and General Electric CF6 powerplants; this switch was recognized as considerably reducing the project's development costs.[11]: 45 [15][16]: 16–17 To attract potential customers in the US market, it was decided that General Electric CF6-50 engines would power the A300 in place of the British RB207; these engines would be produced in co-operation with French firm Snecma.[8][10] By this time, Rolls-Royce had been concentrating their efforts upon developing their RB211 turbofan engine instead and progress on the RB207's development had been slow for some time, the firm having suffered due to funding limitations, both of which had been factors in the engine switch decision.[5]: 2–13 [15][16]: 17–18
On 10 April 1969, a few months after the decision to drop the RB207 had been announced, the British government announced that they would withdraw from the Airbus venture.[6]: 38–39 [15] In response, West Germany proposed to France that they would be willing to contribute up to 50% of the project's costs if France was prepared to do the same.[15] Additionally, the managing director of Hawker Siddeley, Sir Arnold Alexander Hall, decided that his company would remain in the project as a favoured sub-contractor, developing and manufacturing the wings for the A300, which would later become pivotal in later versions' impressive performance from short domestic to long intercontinental flights.[5]: 2–13 [9]: 34 [16]: 18 Hawker Siddeley spent £35 million of its own funds, along with a further £35 million loan from the West German government, on the machine tooling to design and produce the wings.[6]: 39 [15]
Programme launch:
On 29 May 1969, during the Paris Air Show, French transport minister Jean Chamant and German economics minister Karl Schiller signed an agreement officially launching the Airbus A300, the world's first twin-engine widebody airliner.[2] The intention of the project was to produce an aircraft that was smaller, lighter, and more economical than its three-engine American rivals, the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar.[10] In order to meet Air France's demands for an aircraft larger than 250-seat A300B, it was decided to stretch the fuselage to create a new variant, designated as the A300B2, which would be offered alongside the original 250-seat A300B, henceforth referred to as the A300B1. On 3 September 1970, Air France signed a letter of intent for six A300s, marking the first order to be won for the new airliner.[6]: 39 [10][16]: 21
In the aftermath of the Paris Air Show agreement, it was decided that, in order to provide effective management of responsibilities, a Groupement d'intérêt économique would be established, allowing the various partners to work together on the project while remaining separate business entities.[2] On 18 December 1970, Airbus Industrie was formally established following an agreement between Aérospatiale (the newly merged Sud Aviation and Nord Aviation) of France and the antecedents to Deutsche Aerospace of Germany, each receiving a 50 per cent stake in the newly formed company.[3]: 50 [6]: 39 [10] In 1971, the consortium was joined by a third full partner, the Spanish firm CASA, who received a 4.2 per cent stake, the other two members reducing their stakes to 47.9 per cent each.[10][16]: 20 In 1979, Britain joined the Airbus consortium via British Aerospace, which Hawker Siddeley had merged into, which acquired a 20 per cent stake in Airbus Industrie with France and Germany each reducing their stakes to 37.9 per cent.[3]: 53 [5]: 2–14 [6]: 39
Prototype and flight testing:
Airbus Industrie was initially headquartered in Paris, which is where design, development, flight testing, sales, marketing, and customer support activities were centered; the headquarters was relocated to Toulouse in January 1974.[8][10] The final assembly line for the A300 was located adjacent to Toulouse Blagnac International Airport. The manufacturing process necessitated transporting each aircraft section being produced by the partner companies scattered across Europe to this one location. The combined use of ferries and roads were used for the assembly of the first A300, however this was time-consuming and not viewed as ideal by Felix Kracht, Airbus Industrie's production director.[10] Kracht's solution was to have the various A300 sections brought to Toulouse by a fleet of Boeing 377-derived Aero Spacelines Super Guppy aircraft, by which means none of the manufacturing sites were more than two hours away. Having the sections airlifted in this manner made the A300 the first airliner to use just-in-time manufacturing techniques, and allowed each company to manufacture its sections as fully equipped, ready-to-fly assemblies.[3]: 53 [10]
In September 1969, construction of the first prototype A300 began.[16]: 20 On 28 September 1972, this first prototype was unveiled to the public, it conducted its maiden flight from Toulouse–Blagnac International Airport on 28 October that year.[6]: 39 [9]: 34 [11]: 51–52 This maiden flight, which was performed a month ahead of schedule, lasted for one hour and 25 minutes; the captain was Max Fischl and the first officer was Bernard Ziegler, son of Henri Ziegler.[10] In 1972, unit cost was US$17.5M.[17] On 5 February 1973, the second prototype performed its maiden flight.[6]: 39 The flight test program, which involved a total of four aircraft, was relatively problem-free, accumulating 1,580 flight hours throughout.[16]: 22 In September 1973, as part of promotional efforts for the A300, the new aircraft was taken on a six-week tour around North America and South America, to demonstrate it to airline executives, pilots, and would-be customers.[10] Amongst the consequences of this expedition, it had allegedly brought the A300 to the attention of Frank Borman of Eastern Airlines, one of the "big four" U.S. airlines.[18]
Entry into service:
On 15 March 1974, type certificates were granted for the A300 from both German and French authorities, clearing the way for its entry into revenue service.[18] On 23 May 1974, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification was received.[16]: 22 The first production model, the A300B2, entered service in 1974, followed by the A300B4 one year later.[8] Initially, the success of the consortium was poor, in part due to the economic consequences of the 1973 oil crisis,[6]: 40 [8][9]: 34 but by 1979 there were 81 A300 passenger liners in service with 14 airlines, alongside 133 firm orders and 88 options.[18] Ten years after the official launch of the A300, the company had achieved a 26 per cent market share in terms of dollar value, enabling Airbus Industries to proceed with the development of its second aircraft, the Airbus A310.[18]
Design:
The Airbus A300 is a wide-body medium-to-long range airliner; it has the distinction of being the first twin-engine wide-body aircraft in the world.[8][9]: 34 [12]: 57, 60 [19] In 1977, the A300 became the first Extended Range Twin Operations (ETOPS)-compliant aircraft, due to its high performance and safety standards.[6]: 40 Another world-first of the A300 is the use of composite materials on a commercial aircraft, which were used on both secondary and later primary airframe structures, decreasing overall weight and improving cost-effectiveness.[19] Other firsts included the pioneering use of center-of-gravity control, achieved by transferring fuel between various locations across the aircraft, and electrically signaled secondary flight controls.[20]
The A300 is powered by a pair of underwing turbofan engines, either General Electric CF6 or Pratt & Whitney JT9D engines; the sole use of underwing engine pods allowed for any suitable turbofan engine to be more readily used.[12]: 57 The lack of a third tail-mounted engine, as per the trijet configuration used by some competing airliners, allowed for the wings to be located further forwards and to reduce the size of the vertical stabilizer and elevator, which had the effect of increasing the aircraft's flight performance and fuel efficiency.[3]: 50 [16]: 21
Airbus partners had employed the latest technology, some of which having been derived from Concorde, on the A300. According to Airbus, new technologies adopted for the airliner were selected principally for increased safety, operational capability, and profitability.[19] Upon entry into service in 1974, the A300 was a very advanced plane, which went on to influence later airliner designs. The technological highlights include advanced wings by de Havilland (later BAE Systems) with supercritical airfoil sections for economical performance and advanced aerodynamically efficient flight control surfaces. The 5.64 m (222 in) diameter circular fuselage section allows an eight-abreast passenger seating and is wide enough for 2 LD3 cargo containers side by side. Structures are made from metal billets, reducing weight. It is the first airliner to be fitted with wind shear protection. Its advanced autopilots are capable of flying the aircraft from climb-out to landing, and it has an electrically controlled braking system.
Later A300s incorporated other advanced features such as the Forward-Facing Crew Cockpit (FFCC), which enabled a two-pilot flight crew to fly the aircraft alone without the need for a flight engineer, the functions of which were automated; this two-man cockpit concept was a world-first for a wide-body aircraft.[8][16]: 23–24 [20] Glass cockpit flight instrumentation, which used cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors to display flight, navigation, and warning information, along with fully digital dual autopilots and digital flight control computers for controlling the spoilers, flaps, and leading-edge slats, were also adopted upon later-built models.[19][21] Additional composites were also made use of, such as carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP), as well as their presence in an increasing proportion of the aircraft's components, including the spoilers, rudder, air brakes, and landing gear doors.[22] Another feature of later aircraft was the addition of wingtip fences, which improved aerodynamic performance and thus reduced cruise fuel consumption by about 1.5% for the A300-600.[23]
In addition to passenger duties, the A300 became widely used by air freight operators; according to Airbus, it is the best selling freight aircraft of all time.[20] Various variants of the A300 were built to meet customer demands, often for diverse roles such as aerial refueling tankers, freighter models (new-build and conversions), combi aircraft, military airlifter, and VIP transport. Perhaps the most visually unique of the variants is the A300-600ST Beluga, an oversize cargo-carrying model operated by Airbus to carry aircraft sections between their manufacturing facilities.[20] The A300 was the basis for, and retained a high level of commonality with, the second airliner produced by Airbus, the smaller Airbus A310.[19]
Operational history:
On 23 May 1974, the first A300 to enter service performed the first commercial flight of the type, flying from Paris to London, for Air France.[6]: 39 [18]
Immediately after the launch, sales of the A300 were weak for some years, with most orders going to airlines that had an obligation to favor the domestically made product – notably Air France and Lufthansa, the first two airlines to place orders for the type.[3]: 50–52 [18] Following the appointment of Bernard Lathière as Henri Ziegler's replacement, an aggressive sales approach was adopted. Indian Airlines was the world's first domestic airline to purchase the A300, ordering three aircraft with three options. However, between December 1975 and May 1977, there were no sales for the type. During this period a number of "whitetail" A300s – completed but unsold aircraft – were completed and stored at Toulouse, and production fell to half an aircraft per month amid calls to pause production completely.[18]
During the flight testing of the A300B2, Airbus held a series of talks with Korean Air on the topic of developing a longer-range version of the A300, which would become the A300B4. In September 1974, Korean Air placed an order for four A300B4s with options for two further aircraft; this sale was viewed as significant as it was the first non-European international airline to order Airbus aircraft. Airbus had viewed South-East Asia as a vital market that was ready to be opened up and believed Korean Air to be the 'key'.[8][16]: 23 [18]
Airlines operating the A300 on short haul routes were forced to reduce frequencies to try and fill the aircraft. As a result, they lost passengers to airlines operating more frequent narrow body flights. Eventually, Airbus had to build its own narrowbody aircraft (the A320) to compete with the Boeing 737 and McDonnell Douglas DC-9/MD-80. The savior of the A300 was the advent of ETOPS, a revised FAA rule which allows twin-engine jets to fly long-distance routes that were previously off-limits to them. This enabled Airbus to develop the aircraft as a medium/long range airliner.
In 1977, US carrier Eastern Air Lines leased four A300s as an in-service trial.[18] CEO Frank Borman was impressed that the A300 consumed 30% less fuel, even less than expected, than his fleet of L-1011s. Borman proceeded to order 23 A300s, becoming the first U.S. customer for the type. This order is often cited as the point at which Airbus came to be seen as a serious competitor to the large American aircraft-manufacturers Boeing and McDonnell Douglas.[6]: 40 [8][18] Aviation author John Bowen alleged that various concessions, such as loan guarantees from European governments and compensation payments, were a factor in the decision as well.[3]: 52 The Eastern Air Lines breakthrough was shortly followed by an order from Pan Am. From then on, the A300 family sold well, eventually reaching a total of 561 delivered aircraft.[1]
In December 1977, Aerocondor Colombia became the first Airbus operator in Latin America, leasing one Airbus A300B4-2C, named Ciudad de Barranquilla.
During the late 1970s, Airbus adopted a so-called 'Silk Road' strategy, targeting airlines in the Far East.[3]: 52 [18] As a result, The aircraft found particular favor with Asian airlines, being bought by Japan Air System, Korean Air, China Eastern Airlines, Thai Airways International, Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, China Airlines, Pakistan International Airlines, Indian Airlines, Trans Australia Airlines and many others. As Asia did not have restrictions similar to the FAA 60-minutes rule for twin-engine airliners which existed at the time, Asian airlines used A300s for routes across the Bay of Bengal and South China Sea.
In 1977, the A300B4 became the first ETOPS compliant aircraft,[24] qualifying for Extended Twin Engine Operations over water, providing operators with more versatility in routing. In 1982 Garuda Indonesia became the first airline to fly the A300B4-200FFCC.[25] By 1981, Airbus was growing rapidly, with over 400 aircraft sold to over forty airlines.[26]
In 1989, Chinese operator China Eastern Airlines received its first A300; by 2006, the airline operated around 18 A300s, making it the largest operator of both the A300 and the A310 at that time. On 31 May 2014, China Eastern officially retired the last A300-600 in its fleet, having begun drawing down the type in 2010.[27]
From 1997 to 2014, a single A300, designated A300 Zero-G, was operated by the European Space Agency (ESA), centre national d'études spatiales (CNES) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) as a reduced-gravity aircraft for conducting research into microgravity; the A300 is the largest aircraft to ever have been used in this capacity. A typical flight would last for two and a half hours, enabling up to 30 parabolas to be performed per flight.[28][29]
By the 1990s, the A300 was being heavily promoted as a cargo freighter.[16]: 24 The largest freight operator of the A300 is FedEx Express, which has 65 A300 aircraft in service as of May 2022.[30] UPS Airlines also operates 52 freighter versions of the A300.[31]
The final version was the A300-600R and is rated for 180-minute ETOPS. The A300 has enjoyed renewed interest in the secondhand market for conversion to freighters; large numbers were being converted during the late 1990s.[16]: 24–25 The freighter versions – either new-build A300-600s or converted ex-passenger A300-600s, A300B2s and B4s – account for most of the world's freighter fleet after the Boeing 747 freighter.[32]
The A300 provided Airbus the experience of manufacturing and selling airliners competitively. The basic fuselage of the A300 was later stretched (A330 and A340), shortened (A310), or modified into derivatives (A300-600ST Beluga Super Transporter). In 2006, unit cost of an −600F was $105 million.[14] In March 2006, Airbus announced the impending closure of the A300/A310 final assembly line,[33] making them the first Airbus aircraft to be discontinued. The final production A300, an A300F freighter, performed its initial flight on 18 April 2007,[34] and was delivered to FedEx Express on 12 July 2007.[35] Airbus has announced a support package to keep A300s flying commercially. Airbus offers the A330-200F freighter as a replacement for the A300 cargo variants.[36]
The life of UPS's fleet of 52 A300s, delivered from 2000 to 2006, will be extended to 2035 by a flight deck upgrade based around Honeywell Primus Epic avionics; new displays and flight management system (FMS), improved weather radar, a central maintenance system, and a new version of the current enhanced ground proximity warning system. With a light usage of only two to three cycles per day, it will not reach the maximum number of cycles by then. The first modification will be made at Airbus Toulouse in 2019 and certified in 2020.[37] As of July 2017, there are 211 A300s in service with 22 operators, with the largest operator being FedEx Express with 68 A300-600F aircraft.[38]
Variants:
A300B1 - The A300B1 was the first variant to take flight. It had a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of 132 t (291,000 lb), was 51 m (167 ft) long and was powered by two General Electric CF6-50A engines.[16]: 21 [39]: 41 Only two prototypes of the variant were built before it was adapted into the A300B2, the first production variant of the airliner.[6]: 39 The second prototype was leased to Trans European Airways in 1974.[39]: 54
A300B2 -
A300B2-100:
Responding to a need for more seats from Air France, Airbus decided that the first production variant should be larger than the original prototype A300B1. The CF6-50A powered A300B2-100 was 2.6 m (8.5 ft) longer than the A300B1 and had an increased MTOW of 137 t (302,000 lb), allowing for 30 additional seats and bringing the typical passenger count up to 281, with capacity for 20 LD3 containers.[40]: 10 [41][39]: 17 Two prototypes were built and the variant made its maiden flight on 28 June 1973, became certified on 15 March 1974 and entered service with Air France on 23 May 1974.[39]: 27, 53 [40]: 10
A300B2-200:
For the A300B2-200, originally designated as the A300B2K, Krueger flaps were introduced at the leading-edge root, the slat angles were reduced from 20 degrees to 16 degrees, and other lift related changes were made in order to introduce a high-lift system. This was done to improve performance when operating at high-altitude airports, where the air is less dense and lift generation is reduced.[42]: 52, 53 [43] The variant had an increased MTOW of 142 t (313,000 lb) and was powered by CF6-50C engines, was certified on 23 June 1976, and entered service with South African Airways in November 1976.[39]: 40 [40]: 12 CF6-50C1 and CF6-50C2 models were also later fitted depending on customer requirements, these became certified on 22 February 1978 and 21 February 1980 respectively.[39]: 41 [40]: 12
A300B2-320:
The A300B2-320 introduced the Pratt & Whitney JT9D powerplant and was powered by JT9D-59A engines. It retained the 142 t (313,000 lb) MTOW of the B2-200, was certified on 4 January 1980, and entered service with Scandinavian Airlines on 18 February 1980, with only four being produced.[39]: 99, 112 [40]: 14

The initial A300B4 variant, later named the A300B4-100, included a centre fuel tank for an increased fuel capacity of 47.5 tonnes (105,000 lb), and had an increased MTOW of 157.5 tonnes (347,000 lb).[44][42]: 38 It also featured Krueger flaps and had a similar high-lift system to what was later fitted to the A300B2-200.[42]: 74 The variant made its maiden flight on 26 December 1974, was certified on 26 March 1975, and entered service with Germanair in May 1975.[39]: 32, 54 [40]: 16
A300B4-200:
The A300B4-200 had an increased MTOW of 165 tonnes (364,000 lb) and featured an additional optional fuel tank in the rear cargo hold, which would reduce the cargo capacity by two LD3 containers.[40]: 19 [42]: 69 The variant was certified on 26 April 1979.[40]: 19
A300-600 - The A300-600, officially designated as the A300B4-600, was slightly longer than the A300B2 and A300B4 variants and had an increased interior space from using a similar rear fuselage to the Airbus A310, this allowed it to have two additional rows of seats.[42]: 79 It was initially powered by Pratt & Whitney JT9D-7R4H1 engines, but was later fitted with General Electric CF6-80C2 engines, with Pratt & Whitney PW4156 or PW4158 engines being introduced in 1986.[42]: 82 Other changes include an improved wing featuring a recambered trailing edge, the incorporation of simpler single-slotted Fowler flaps, the deletion of slat fences, and the removal of the outboard ailerons after they were deemed unnecessary on the A310.[45] The variant made its first flight on 8 July 1983, was certified on 9 March 1984, and entered service in June 1984 with Saudi Arabian Airlines.[40]: 42 [39]: 58 A total of 313 A300-600s (all versions) have been sold. The A300-600 uses the A310 cockpits, featuring digital technology and electronic displays, eliminating the need for a flight engineer. The FAA issues a single type rating which allows operation of both the A310 and A300-600. A300-600: (Official designation: A300B4-600) The baseline model of the −600 series. A300-620C: (Official designation: A300C4-620) A convertible-freighter version. Four delivered between 1984 and 1985. A300-600F: (Official designation: A300F4-600) The freighter version of the baseline −600. A300-600R: (Official designation: A300B4-600R) The increased-range −600, achieved by an additional trim fuel tank in the tail. First delivery in 1988 to American Airlines; all A300s built since 1989 (freighters included) are −600Rs. Japan Air System (later merged into Japan Airlines) took delivery of the last new-built passenger A300, an A300-622R, in November 2002. A300-600RC: (Official designation: A300C4-600R) The convertible-freighter version of the −600R. Two were delivered in 1999. A300-600RF: (Official designation: A300F4-600R) The freighter version of the −600R. All A300s delivered between November 2002 and 12 July 2007 (last ever A300 delivery) were A300-600RFs.
A310 (A300B10)-
Airbus had demand for an aircraft smaller than the A300. On 7 July 1978, the A310 (initially the A300B10) was launched with orders from Swissair and Lufthansa. On 3 April 1982, the first prototype conducted its maiden flight and it received its type certification on 11 March 1983.
Keeping the same eight-abreast cross-section, the A310 is 6.95 m (22.8 ft) shorter than the initial A300 variants, and has a smaller 219 m2 (2,360 sq ft) wing, down from 260 m2 (2,800 sq ft). The A310 introduced a two-crew glass cockpit, later adopted for the A300-600 with a common type rating. It was powered by the same GE CF6-80 or Pratt & Whitney JT9D then PW4000 turbofans. It can seat 220 passengers in two classes, or 240 in all-economy, and can fly up to 5,150 nmi (9,540 km). It has overwing exits between the two main front and rear door pairs.
In April 1983, the aircraft entered revenue service with Swissair and competed with the Boeing 767–200, introduced six months before. Its longer range and ETOPS regulations allowed it to be operated on transatlantic flights. Until the last delivery in June 1998, 255 aircraft were produced, as it was succeeded by the larger Airbus A330-200. It has cargo aircraft versions, and was derived into the Airbus A310 MRTT military tanketransport.
Airbus A300-ST (Beluga)
Commonly referred to as the Airbus Beluga or "Airbus Super Transporter," these five airframes are used by Airbus to ferry parts between the company's disparate manufacturing facilities, thus enabling workshare distribution. They replaced the four Aero Spacelines Super Guppys previously used by Airbus.
ICAO code: A3ST
Operators:
As of March 2023, there were 228 A300 family aircraft in commercial service. The five largest operators were FedEx Express (70), UPS Airlines (52), European Air Transport Leipzig (23), Iran Air (11), and Mahan Air (11).[46]

2023.06.04 08:10 _kaleb_ Questions: Differential Mount 06' Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7L
So clunk has been a bit ignored and finally decided to tackle it.Wife had taken it into a dealer to get an estimate and have it done when I was laid up after appendix surgery. They took a week and then me showing up and waiting an hour for them to even frantically get that quote together. For a single diff mount, pinion seal and front passenger engine isolator they quoted an obscene $2,075.... Thats not even getting into the fact that they said it was the front-most mount on the front differential when it is 100% the rear-most (common issue from what I've heard on these Jeeps)
I'm off restrictions now, and I'm a cheap ass who can't justify paying that kind of money for a small repair on a $5k rig. I'm no stranger to working on my own vehicle and what I can find seems to be unbolt drive line, remove both tires, undo upper ball joints, undo tie rod ball joints which allows both knuckles to be moved enough to pull CV axles from front diff, and then supporting the diff while undoing the mount bolts you can shimmy it right out.
Now they quoted one mount, but I'm thinking that just replacing all 3 would probably be best since its hard to get to? Or would I be able to skip the front most (905-404) if it looks good because its extremely easy to get to (and expensive lol) and just do the two.
I'm also trying to figure out the right part number for the pinion seal. Mopar lists it as 52111953AC, but I was also seeing through Autozone/Duralast that 710-839 seems to be the same seal and compatible. It just notes "Chrysler C200F or C200FE. 7.875" ring gear". Obviously I'm not a huge jeep enthusiast so I was wondering if anyone knew if that was the right part.
Any advice on pinion seal replacement? Can't find any videos or advice really although other pinion seals looked pretty easy. Everythng given I'm not 100% confident on their claims it had leaked, or if they were doing typical service writer stuff tacking on stuff just in case.

2023.06.04 07:46 lnedible A Strategical Blunder
The soldiers lined on Ardenholms beaches. Their bright, jewel encrusted armor flashed brightly in the glaring summers sun. The warriors were eager to get on with their game of conquering and subjugating. They were Ardenholmites, Humilauians, and Pommedorans, as well as Tuberite religious warriors hailing from Solanum. They were gathered in Ardenholm to prepare for an imminent invasion from Veritas and their leader, BB.
Ardenholm, Humilau and especially Pommedora were in open rebellion from BB. They thought of him as a tyrannical leader, levying heavy taxes and other unreasonable demands. They finally decided to declare themselves separate from BB, but the turmoil quickly devolved into a fight for control of the entire island chain.
Pommedora was a Tuberist nation, so they called upon their Solanarian brothers to help the fight. The Tuberists, thinking it would be an easy battle, happily joined in.
As the Tuberites made the short voyage to Pommedora, tensions arose. There was an attempt to reestablish diplomatic relations which quickly broke down, resulting in a raid from Veritas on Pommedora, their closest neighbor.
The Tuberites arrived far too late to join the fray, but fortunately the raid was mostly scared off before any real fighting could occur, and the casualties were 6 in Pommedora, after a single arrow barrage and 8 Veritasian raiders who brought their boat too close to the walls and were sunk by a well placed explosive firework.
Thus began an alarmingly fast arms race. Both sides were on islands, so a full force invasion was not viable…yet. Seemingly overnight the once windswept and backwater islands in rebellion turned to industry. The once salty and warm air choked with the smoke from the flames of fires roaring in their mighty hearths. Peaceful and sunny harbors because overrun with heavy bots of war.
Veritas kept pace with the industrial might and the islands were equal in strength. Both bought mercenaries to fight, but Veritas gained a significant upper hand by taking a hefty loan from bankers overseas and buying much better metals than could ever be reaped from the earth on the barren island chain.
Finally the mines were depleted of what little resources they could muster. Though bright earthen metals were occasionally still warm from being melted and pounded into their molds.
With no more brawn games to play, both sides made a quick shift to mind games. Spies. Spies everywhere. In the streets. In the factories. In the harbors. Everywhere. Private conversations became public knowledge overnight. The town square of Ardenholm ran red with the blood of those suspected of treason.
Next came the starvation. The already small fields had been neglected because the farmers had been made to become factory workers. This time, the rebellion got the upper hand, with the Tuberists providing food from their vast fields back in Solanaria. Veritas attempted a naval blockade to stop the shipment of food from arriving. The Tuberists didn’t slow down. The naval commander ordered them to hold. The Tuberists, already very near to the maximum pace, almost appeared to speed up. Finally they stopped just outside of cannon range. They waited in a locked stalemate for 3 days until the Veritasians ran out of water and were forced to return to port. Thus, they spent the winter on meager rations and had to sell some of their newly bought steel to pay for food.
Finally, after a long and cold winter of light eating and intense stare-offs, the spring blossomed in the remaining fields.
The Veritasians had survived the winter by the skin of their teeth and knew that they could not survive another winter. This years winter had been astoundingly warm (by West Phagosian standards). In fact, this was the warmest winter ever recorded.
Over on Pommedora, which at this point had been established as the capital, the situation was almost as grim. The Tuberists, who were creeping up on a years time spent on an island were becoming increasingly obstinate and downright treasonous. They longed to go back to their homeland, and run on green fields, with gently rolling hills bordered by lush, fertile marshes, encased by the great mountains far to the west, just where the eye could see them. They downright despised the cramped island.
Tensions were starting to boil over on all sides of the war, until finally the spy game did its job. The Pommedorans received definitive proof that the Veritasians would be sailing for a “surprise” attack on Ardenholm in one months time. This was the break they needed and with this knowledge they could easily win the war.
Under the cover of darkness they began to very slowly and methodically ship soldier to Ardenholm. They arrived on mail boats and pleasure crafts, in wine barrels and tiny crude rafts. Simultaneously, these same craft evacuated the women and children, bringing them safely to Pommedora.
Then, the day before the battle, an idea was had. It was decided that instead of defending the city they should go on the offensive while the opposing military was away. The idea was they would go quickly to Veritas and slay BB, and then swiftly bring his head back over to Ardenholm where his army, seeing that they had nothing to fight for, would surrender.
There were problems with this plan, though. The entire army was already on Ardenholm, and Pommedora was still the closest island to Veritas, so it would make no sense to keep an army anywhere but there. Also, the ships would probably sail right by each other on their way to conquer their respective islands.
“None the matter with these details” said the commanders, “This plan is too good to pass up.”
And thus we pick up where we started, with the solders, armed to the teeth, sitting in the early morning sun, waiting for their boats to take them to Veritas.
They boarded and set off. 1/10 of the army was left behind to There was nothing but excitement as they lost sight of the shore. The soldiers were tremendously confident in their plan.
The boats sailed for 38 minutes without interruption.
Suddenly, a lookout sounded their horn. The soldiers instantaneously switched from their excited and eager chatter to silence as they looked on the horizon, expecting to see a fleet of opposing ships.
Instead they saw a tiny island. Barely even an island. More like a sad sandbar. The entire island was completely covered in Veritasian troops. They were all standing on the island, their bodies facing the fleet. They were all watching the fleet sail by.
All wielded a dull blue trident, the color of cold and drear ocean
Then one, the commander most likely, stepped forth and walked slowly to the edge of the shore, about 10 feet. He stopped at the edge and dipped the pronged fork of his trident into the water
Not a single eye strayed from his trident as it leapt to life. It’s dull and sad color replaced by an electric blue. The blue started from where the water touched the prongs and snaked down the trident at a decently fast pace.
Then he did the most unexpected thing of all, and fell face first into the water. All eyes remained on where he fell. The seconds ticked by. 15. 30. 60. 90. Was he dead? 120. Then at 133 exactly he sprang from the water. His right hand clamped so tightly around his trident his knuckles were bleached like dead coral. He sailed 50 meters in the air, well above the masts of the boats, and about 150 meters towards the boats.
Then his army all seemingly sprang to life and walked swiftly to the waters edge. It was a trap! They didn’t pause for dramatic effect like he did, diving headfirst into the water and sailing through the air with almost no delay.
The archers attempted to ready their bows but the boats were already packed tight with men, horses, cannons, and all sorts of equipment of war.
The tridenteers sprang forth and plunged into the ocean like rain. A hundred a twenty, they numbered. They rapidly began closing the distance. The archers pulled back their bows and waited for them to get into firing range. They quickly closed in. Finally, they were in shooting distance and they fired. None of the shots struck. In fact, none even came close. The soldiers were simply too small to hit accurately, especially from a rocking boat.
The tridenteers then passed overhead, and did the most unexpected thing of all. A few reached into their pouches and pulled out a single gray stick about the size of a baton. They then dropped them.
All of the tridenteers possessed 8 of these sticks, so most waited until they had clear shots to drop. A few thought they did right then, and threw their sticks towards the ships.
All except one missed. It was tremendously hard to fire accurately while trying to dodge projectiles.
The one that didn’t miss sailed down, down, down until it landed barely on the port side of a medium sized Humilauian cruiser. The wood of the boat was no match for the explosion that rang out. The front port side was torn. The water spout produced from the explosion went 15 meters into the air.
The ship sank in 2 minutes.
Immediately it’s neighboring boats turned sharply to rescue the screaming survivors. The tridenteers passed about a kilometer away from the boats before veering to the left and turning to made another pass.
The ships were thoroughly spooked, and most moved to do evasive maneuvers.
Suddenly, three powerful horn blasts rang out. This was the sign to press forth. The ships readjusted course to fan out, but 9 blasts rang out, the sign to stick together.
A second pass was made with 2 ships sunk. Another pass was made, but no ships were sunk. Than another with no ships. Another with 1. Another with 1. Another with none. This continued until 87 passes were made. There were 137 boats in total at the beginning, 7 large, 38 medium and 94 small. 93 remained. There were 4 large boats remaining (the 3 that were sunk had been sunk at the very beginning), 15 medium boats, and 75 small boats. Almost all of the surviving medium and large boats had tied themselves together with rope and formed a sort of floating pontoon. This greatly increased the sailing time, and a journey of 3 hours took 6.
Not all of the ships that were lost had sunk. Of the 19 small boats that were not present in the final fleet, only 2 had actually been sunk.
There had been a sort of mutiny aboard some of the smaller boats after the 8th pass. 2 of the 7 large boats had been hit and were sinking and the situation was looking very dire. In the rear, 9 of the small boats and 8 of the medium boats (the medium boats were the very end of the fleet) all mutinied against their captains, with three being stabbed to death and one being cast into the sea and turned around back to Ardenholm. Watching them sail away nearly caused the entire fleet to break apart but they were guided by a common foe.
A few of the boats lagged behind. 4 medium boats couldn’t keep pace due to being non-fatally struck and turned around. The tridenteers were given orders to at least damage the ships heavily enough to force them to turn around, so they allowed those ships to flee.
3 small ships, in an interesting turn of fate, were nearest to the islands when the bombing started. They were the ones who had sounded the alarm. The tridenteers had passed over them entirely without dropping a single bomb. They were still horrified watching the preliminary carnage before the ships could form up, and decided to run themselves aground on the tiny island the Veritasians had started out in.
They hid under the 6 palm trees for 8 days, not knowing anything about the status of any of the nations. They survived by eating the horses they had brought and drinking the wine they had brought which they were going to celebrate with once the island of Veritas was conquered.
Finally, after 6 hours, the boats sighted Veritas. The midday sun was high in the air and the archers could not see the trident wielders through the sun, accelerating their losses.
Veritas looked abandoned. The alarm has been raised but very few troops were on the walls, looking very frightened.
The soldiers let out a halfhearted cheer upon laying eyes on the island. The Veritasian tridents veered right after the fleet made their way into the smooth natural harbor.
The tridenteers had only lost 11. 7 from lucky bow shots, 3 from the binding from their wrists to their tridents slipping off, and 1 stupid soldier who tried to land on a small boat and was instantly slain.
The boats neared the docks of Veritas. The harbor wasn’t much of a harbor at all, only having a narrow wave-breaking sandspit that only extended past a third of the docks.
The boats made passes towards the docks, with some soldiers being so desperate to get off of them they leaped from the boats and swam to shore.
The boats all started to unload as normal, with horses being placed on the shore and equipment to breach the great gate of Veritas being unloaded
Suddenly the great gate of Veritas, which was expected to be a large obstacle swung open and half of Veritas’s army (still a formidable number mind you) roared forth, banging their shields, and sprinted at the unprepared rebels.
This was not expected at all, and no precautions for this had been taken. The rebels on the beach all turned to run back to the boats when, alas! The tridenteers reappeared from out of nowhere behind the boats. They hurtled towards the crafts, flying much more recklessly now, and dropped their bombs. The boats were not moving or fighting back this time and 8 were struck.
In the same run, 47 of the tridenteers dropped their explosives on top of the docks, blowing all except two up. Those two would be decommissioned in the next run.
This mostly stranded the peoples on the shore, whose only option now was the rowboats from the large ships. Some ran towards those but right then the charging army from the gates slammed into those on the shore.
18 rowboats were cast off, from the beach and the rest were not able to and were scuttled. The battle for the beach was a terrible situation for the rebels with them being completely pinned against the sea.
The battle lasted 15 minutes. There was no command from any officers due to most still being present on the boats. No definitive line was formed up and many men swam out to sea to try to wait out the slaughter. Most men threw their weapons on the ground and begged for mercy.
1/6 of the seaborn army was slain and 1/6 of the army surrendered on the beach, totaling 1/3 of invasion, or exactly 642 men.
The boats tried to leave the harbor but all tried to leave at once and a few collisions occurred. The boats that made it out were harassed by the tridenteers the entire time. A few tridenteers were observed landing on the decks of boats and stabbing sailors as they tried to get the boats under control before running away
To top it off, the winds were blowing in an awful direction and most of the boats were blown far to the right. They nearly crashed into an unwalled peninsula. The horn of orders was silent because the ship they were on had taken a direct hit and was rapidly sinking. The commander of the entire operation, on that ship, had died instantly in the blast. The entire senior commanding force had migrated to that boat during the trident harassment because it was centrally located and the safest option. None of the senior officers survived, as the bomb quite literally split the ship in two, and as they were gathered midship below the upper decks they had either been torn up from wood splinters or went down with the ship and were drowned.
Due to the lack of orders, all ships had their own idea of what to do. Most of them thought that the wind was far too unfavorable to set into open water so decided to land on the peninsula. About 1/3 decided to try the winds and sailed in various directions to various islands. This time, the tridenteers could harass them all they wanted and most would not get far. One tridenteer was assigned per boat, which ended up being a large blunder on Veritas's part because most were out of ammunition and could not do any damage.
Those who landed on the peninsula were met with an immediate problem. Unloading. Most of the men jumped overboard to swim to shore and some ships went completely unmanned before being either sunk or captured by the opposing force. Some men who didn't take of their armor were weighed down by it and drowned. The same happened for the archers, who's quivers filled completely with water instead of arrows, and if they were unable to get the quiver off they drowned.
There was one final factor that was at play. The peninsula itself. It was very long and narrow. So narrow that a tridenteer could safely jump all the way over it without being dashed apart on the rocks.
A single tridenteer sprang fourth. Their bright blue trident electric against the sky, which was growing progressively cloudier. They reached into their pocket and pulled out one of the sticks. They lazily let it go before safely landing in the water on the other side.
They didn’t even have to aim. It exploded on the top right corner of the peninsula and some were caught in the blast.
The other tridenteers followed suit. There were only 26 archers still armed as almost all of them had either abandoned their gear or were weighed down by it trying to swim over.
The entire peninsula was scourged. The walls extended to the beach on either side, and the coast became far too treacherous and rocky to swim around.
40% of the entire army was slain on the peninsula. A further 20% (of the men on the peninsula) surrendered and only 19 men escaped. 9 on a rowboat that was let go because of its irrelevance and 10 somehow survived the swim around the walls and ran up the island before stealing a sailboat and escaping.
Those that turned around and fled immediately suffered casualties, but not to the scale of this. About 5% of the army died on the sail back from getting picked off. Most of the tridenteers ran out of ammunition.
A grand total of 67% of the army perished in this advancement. A further 14% surrendered and of those, 1% died in prison from disease or starvation. 1,531 men in total lost their lives.
As for the boats, of the ones that made it to Veritas, none of the large ships survived, 4 of the medium ships made it back (2 were captured, 9 sank) and 29 of the small ships made it back (38 sunk, 8 captured). Of the 18 rowboats that were on the beach during the initial beach attack, 15 landed on the peninsula, with the other three rowing all the way to Pommedora.
Those that escaped ended up on all manner of islands in the surrounding area. One boat drifted with only one man on board for 8 days. He too survived off of horseflesh but also was lucky enough to get rainwater.
The other half of Veritas’s army had taken a longer route to Ardenholm. Ardenholm somehow managed to pull off an astonishing victory, despite being outnumbered 5-1. They were helped by the crew that had mutinied initially. They made use of their thick walls and used a turtle strategy to wait for help, until after 24 hours when they realized that something had gone seriously wrong they then went on a sudden offensive catching the Veritasian army completely by surprise because they had grown used to not being shot at.
The Ardenholm fighters used bows and a ridiculously large pile of arrows to shoot at the invaders non-stop until they finally gave up and went home. They were significantly hampered by not having the other half of their army. Both sides suffered relatively minor casualties, with Ardenholm losing 19 men and Veritas losing exactly 100.
Veritas lost 58 of their 120 tridenters, with the vast majority being lost by flying too close to the boats and being shot with arrows. Interestingly, 82% of those that landed on boats to stab individual sailors would perish. Their army suffered a loss total of 329.
This defeat left the rebels in shock. Their entire standing army had been effectively wiped out. They would start having to recruit younger men and paying more for mercenaries.
The Tuberists had taken the highest casualty rate, with an unimaginable 80% casualty rate and 16% captured. Only 4%, or just 16 men on one small boat, which they never left, managed to make it back. When the elder potatoes learned about this, they were understandably shocked and devastated and justifiably withdrew all future support to the rebellion. They claimed that the Tuberites had been used as cannon fodder and that that was an stupidly high casualty rate for a defensive mission. They had lost every single one of their ranking officers they had sent on that mission and demanded insanely high rates of compensation. It wasn’t until the battle was thoroughly explained and they were promised that all the islands would convert to Tuberism that they agreed to help once more.
The defeat didn't spell doom for the rebels, but would certainly go on to hamper their future efforts.
And that is the story of one of the worst strategical blunders in Stoneworks history.
This story is based around the truth. Ardenholm was indeed attacked by Veritas and BB after rebelling with Pommedora and Humilau. The Tuberists did indeed help out for religious reasons. There was indeed a failed charge counterattack which was poorly planned and the casualty numbers are accurate if you combine the dead and captured and just consider them all dead. The Veritasians did indeed use tridents to pick most of us off, and I myself died. This would have easily cost us the battle as we lost 80% of our total gear and didn’t really have enough time to make a proper repot. We used the good old 0-armor-stone-axe-rush strategy and only won because they placed capture points underwater which is illegal. So yeah the next battle is in a week (I think) and we have a LOT of grinding to do haha.
Also Stoney hmu if you ever want any scriptwriting help. I love to do this.
If you read this far um gg I guess

2023.06.04 07:44 dig_lazarus_dig48 Owner Builder regrets
I ownebuilt my own house over the course of 4 years from 2019-2022. There is still a fair bit of cosmetic and bits and pieces to finish (BIR for one), but the house is livable.
But it's nearly killed me, and it's ruined all sense of accomplishment for me that so many little things are wrong, despite the fact I tried my heart out to do them properly. I (with my wifes help) worked night and day for nearly 4 years between full time work, raising an infant and building a house, doing almost everything but the necessary certified trades.
It's just that now I've lived in it for 12 months, every single thing that I look at needs to be either touched up, added to, or replaced, not because it isn't functional, but because it's beyond patching cosmetically. Just a few examples:
- The sub floor is "bouncy", and the house creaks whenever you walk around in it. There are no moving doors, cracked plaster or sticking windows, nothing so much as a change in the door gaps (I check obsessively), so the house isn't moving or sinking, it just creaks and cracks, even when the wind whistles underneath it you can feel it affect the house. We had it engineered for certain stump, joist and bearer spacing and sizes, and it all meets "code" and has been ticked off, but it still feels wrong now that we are actually living in the house. Also the washing machine shakes the living shit out of the house, which hasn't caused any damage, but you can feel it lying in bed or on the couch at the other side of the house. I don't know if that's an issue with the sub floor or that is just normal. I've had the idea of adding extra bearers to take the "bounce" out, but the point of wide spacing and fewer stumps is because of reactive soil, (so said the engineers)
- the floating flooring has moved and come apart at the joins to the point that it's probably better to rip it out and start again. I have to jump and skid on it to push it back together again, despite clicking them in when I installed them.
- I tried my best to grout and silicone the bathroom tiles but it either looks poorly or isn't sealed right and develops mold, despite using anti mold silicone. I had a professional install the tiles but they were dear, and they did a sub par job (I paid cash, trying to straddle between a budget and a good job, it didn't always work out and I understand that's the gamble you take) and they didn't want to grout so I did it myself, and I'll probably have to scratch it out and do it again seeing as I made a mistake in doing it.
- the weatherboards on the outside aren't done very well, and I'm not happy with how it come up, despite trying my best, and it's not until you are finished and stand back to look that it just looks not quite right. The gap filler I used just shrunk and fell out ( I tried selleys and James hardie) and I'll have to go back over it at some stage.)
- the kitchen needs to be painted, and I need special paint and equipment to finish it off, despite trying to do it properly from the start.
I could write for days about the many "defects" that I see, but I won't drone on about it. It's just little things that I already tried so hard to get right, consult professionals and do research, and still come up short.
My FIL helped me build the house, who is a builder by trade, but due to irreconcilable differences between us, the option to get him to help me to finish, fix or advise us not an option. Not to get too personal, but the whole process of building this house, and being held to ransom by his hypocrisy and nastiness has made me hate the place and relive the anxious times I had to go through to get the place done. He is also the type of old school tradie that will "teach" someone by letting them stuff it up, ridicule them, and shame them into doing it better, or making you anxious for the next part of the project because you can't "unstuff" the part you have don't without costly expense.
I realise that you're not going to get a "magazine house" working as an owner builder, that much of it is having a go, and working out where your limitations are. I just feel stuck because I still need to spend 10's of thousands of dollars to get it to the point where I could sell it and actually see reward for my effort. But then if I did sell it as it is, given the current market, I would really only move sideways to a different, older house, with a possibly larger mortgage and upkeep than what I already have.
I'm not in dire straits, we live comfortably enough, and I know that many people are experiencing insecure housing in this country at the moment, so I don't want to cry poor about it. It's more just the shame and frustration of trying to do something as best as you can, and not necessarily failing, just coming up short, and having to live in the very place that carries so many negative memories. It feels like I've overlooked something major and I'm waiting for it to turn into a huge problem, and I've got nobody to ask if I'm worrying about nothing, but I'm also too scared to ask if it is something major wrong.
Sorry for the ramble, or if I'm coming across wrong, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the experience in doing this and reaching out hoping that I'm not alone and blowing things out of proportion.

2023.06.04 07:11 PlanXerox A mystery
For 3 years I've been chasing misfire codes in my 2007 Jeep Commander 4.7L v8 2WD. I've replaced the plugs 2x, entire exhaust cats and muffler, 6+ censors, smoke tested pass, fuel pressure tested good, replaced all 8 injectors, all 8 ignition coils, new water pump, new radiator, throttle body cleaning 2x. I haven't done a compression test on cylinders yet. After new repairs I'm able to pass emissions within a few days, then engine lights on again. The code is always a misfire.I have the lifetime powertrain warranty. My next move is the dealer but $$$. Any advice?

2023.06.04 06:19 TheSleepyVin [RANT AND STORY] A boy who wasn't love by all living things.
These few days I been ranting, I hope nobody will bash me with words. It's okay to read my rant just don't push me down further as I don't even know how to lead in life with a smile, My heart feels so stigmatized, tight and heavy. Being born shortly after by my biological mom, some unverified reason happen between my mom and dad leads to divorce. I was very young back then, probably 3-5 years old and I can't talk as I have not yet learn how to, suddenly as this point of time writing this post, I can't believe how much time has passed, the last time I was a child, I felt small, my hands, legs, and there are less things I know about the world, I wasn't so upset or so depressed, but something wasn't feeling right, that love and emptiness I felt, even though I can't describe how it feels back then but subconsciously I miss my mom so much, I have only a memory left of my mom that before she abandoned me, my dad bring me to visit my mom once in awhile, ok very attached to my mom and would hug her everytime I see her. Even though like I said I can't speak, I enjoyed spending the short time with her at her house with my grand mother, I can no longer remember their faces, I know my mom was a very pretty lady wnd petite lady though she was short. She would buy DVDs something that genz won't understand, of Pokemon and digimon animes but back then I don't know it's an anime _(..)/ I could sit at the bedroom on the bed watching peacefully, I don't know what the story in Pokemon and digimon was about back then but the memory remains there till as I grow up with understanding of Pokemon I know what was the thing of memory I had. The two things I remembered was that Bulbasaur refused to evolve even though his species has all evolve, despite Venusaur wanted him to do so, he was so attached to its trainer and that love force him to remain the same which I do not know why maybe the fear to be no longer the same identity? The another was whereby ash, misty, Brock was put into sleep by Gengar and they saw a giant gengar and Alakazam was fighting, but when they touch Gengar or it ate them they fell into his stomach not dead as of they're inside a giant jar, I also remember my grandma bring me to her work place which was primary school but everytime it was emlty, filled with no students maybe because it's weekend? I don't know but when I was with her, I would just run around the canteen while my grandma cleans the canteen, it was so nostalgic, life was so simple back then. I don't need to care anything else.. it was a very simple and sacred love I had from then, but looking backwards, it was a just call before the storm. Everything bad starts happened, before I notice I no longer able to see my mom and grandma again, I was sent to different of my mom I think from my dad but it was just a short time, and I was constantly move from one place to another, but of course the reason was because nobody want to for free especially without money, fast forward that my dad married another woman, and that was really the nightmare that soon to begin, although when I was told to call her mom, it will never ever replace the love I had for my biological mom even though her love for me and the time spending her was short. As I was growing I will always ask my dad where's my mom and he know I was referring to my biological mom as I was very attached to her. I miss her and I know she will never come back but a child I do not know why and I just only kept missing her. That woman that my dad marries brought me to her family, they are a very traditional kind of mindset family and sort of rich, well selling fishball noodles till able to demolish and rebuild terrace house ya over the last few years and I was living there since then till I'm 12 years old. Moving to my dad's house was the hell period and start of the nightmare, always constantly I get beaten up by canning all over my leg and body, forcing to stand for 2 hours because I was too stupid unable study well. I remembered now suddenly that I was force to keep memorize English words for 2 hours sometimes and while crying and standing I had to repeat the words that I am learning for, spelling test often has in school that's why*
Fast forward to secondary school a new school for me, at age of 13/14, lost my previous friends as they went other schools because I wasn't staying at the woman's family house anymore which was nearer to my previous school. Orientation of the school day which is first day, my days of being bullied starts, was bullied by my group of Malay classmates, and I got angry but I cried while angry that is why the bullying continues for 3-4 years, each time I angry, I'll cry at the same time even when I'm angry. There was once my entire school books in my school bag was thrown into the dustbin according to the teachers and couldn't be found. It will be funny, like who even bring entire year of school books? Yup that's me, that woman wanted me to bring and I hate to bring or put it in my bag. I wanted to make friends with my classmates, even those female classmates but I do not know how, like 13 years old kids nowadays knows how to use iphone and I don't even know how to say: May I be your friend, because this doesn't exist in my brain, which I do not know how to even say or what's sentence so the only way to get their attention was by running around in class, and running to slam myself into the wall, pulling girls hairs to get their attention, it's kind of childish, but what to do? I literally don't even know how basic gestures works. Another reasons why I can't express myself properly was also because of my ADHD symptoms and back then I was very very hyperactive! for my school life, can't go anywhere after school and only home and I only can study at home, there's nothing for me to play and it was very bored as I can't sit still, it feels like a prison especially when holiday comes because I can never go out to play. Although I dislike that woman but I like her mother, she's the only one who will pamper me, and often I go back with her to that family house when I was at the hakwer centre, well they're selling fishball noodles that's why. Always when I wanted those toys from capsule machine, which cost a dollar, she gave me but when that woman knows I always get scolded for asking people to buy for me things. My classmates sometimes ask me why does my legs are full of blackmarks but I was scared, I do not dare to tell them that it was because that woman canes me almost everyday. Something causes my parents to talk to my school counselor because of me getting bullied in school everyday and that was a huge alarm as when I get bullied I would scream to the extend almost the whole school would heard and teachers has to come out of the office to look what's happening, my school counselor advise my dad to bring me to see a psychologist I think which is at child guidance clinic and also a time table where by I can go out 2-3 days, but when I was late on of the days when I called that woman, as my dad was busy driving taxi. She threatened me in Chinese that when I go home I will know what happened, terrified of that I dare not go home and had to sleep outside my classmates house which is at the stairs for 1 night, that woman made a police report not because of me lost but because I didn't return home to get beaten by her. Police didn't understand me either and there's no child protection law back then so I only can constantly get more beatings, as mentioned for going to child guidances, I was given to do IQ test but, of course they didn't tell me and till now I don't even know how high is my IQ level but more importantly my dad and that woman just wanted that medicine as they thought it will call me down even after getting beaten, everytime I get beaten and my anger and fear reach broke I will cried and lost control of myself and when one day I decided not to eat anymore they stop bringing me to see doctor because it can no longer control me. I was given only $4 a day, but my classmate who pity me will bring me out after school to lan cafe to play computer with my other classmates, a group of 5 including me. My dad and that women eventually found out and also knows that my school has a system of giving food coupons and that made that woman make her next move by reducing my pocket money to $2. I forgot to mention too, with my medical condition I was unstable in my mind and emotions but they seems to have a habit of further scolding, beating, and agitating me further and alot of times I only can cry in fear against them in the house as there's no other adults there to protect me. This fear letched on to me and made me very very negative, lonely, till today. Alot of times I wanted to find ways to (sui side, wrote in this way to avoid using sensitive words) there was once in army (19 years old) I went and bought a box of Panadols and swallowed 15 -18 tablets but I somehow knew it wasn't enough or deadly to end my life, ended up me seeing medical doctor at the airbase I was in and went to hospital to have IV drip to also flush out the paracetamol, ever since them I no longer able to take Panadol or tablets with similar taste and size due to allergic or the the featrauma of my body subconscious.
At the end of the day, during my entire growing stage life from child to adult, my brain devloped twice as slow than everyone my age and even till today there are some things I may not understand which sounds complicated to me or I'll never understand. I didn't have a normal love life either having girls comes up to me telling me they like me or me confessing to girls I like because I don't even know what's like and love, there was a girl I like and everytime she saw me she would wave to me, she's from a different class as she's smart, probably express or normal acad and is a sort of student council, a contemporary dancer in her cca, I subconsciously like her back then not know that. I always envy others when I walker pass those children with their parents who bring them out or when I sees them so happy playing or interacting with each other. I could only ask my self in my heart, why am I so different and why I couldn't have what normal people haves. Things that are worse is when I see baby or young child cries, my heart start to beat fast and I start to become Abit distracted and uncomfortable, maybe emotional because of the trauma I got child abused. I always sees many girls confessing to my classmate and his younger brother, envy that why so many girls like them, like felt they're so cool enough for girls to approach them be it irl, or online through Facebook. I guess the most depressing and unpleasant moments was I constantly sees girls going to their house to get **** by my classmate's brother, and I knew those girls like them but to him it's just flings, I felt so engioue everything in my life I'm opposite of what normal humans are, and all these experience and memories letch on to me till today made me unable to express or communicate well with people, I feel very lonely, especially after whek my ex classmate and his family treated me so badly, as I was degraded for not working, and saying my medical condition is nothing compared to people with autism and disability like having no hands and no legs, I was also compared to Michael Phelps through my ex-classmate brother, when I have no money I was treated badly and look down on, especially when they buy food for me and then proceed to say those stuffs towards me but when I have money they became so friendly, they made me left my dad's house which give my dad to tell me not to go back his house anymore as he was planning to "sell his house to buy a smaller house" due to debts. My classmate doesn't bother how I felt or my situation, because they lost job during covid period so asking me to rent there would help them have some cash, fast forward to 1 year ago I was rushed by them to get out of their house we one or their siblings coming back from oversea with his wife. I have no one else so I have to apply for a shelter from social workers, and when that extend from November to December till today they demand me to pay $300 when they knew I have no money even when I'm planning to study. Last few weeks because if that I started crying and got very uncontrollably depressed, I realisi that one of the reason because of them that made me depress and affect my behavior and life was because of them. My dad doesn't talk to me for 2 years and suddenly he message me to wish my birthday wish last year but realized he wanted to borrow money from me. Many people told me just let go off the past but how many actually knows that it's easier said than done, basically like a heavy chain are anchoring to me. Nobody knows how it feels to be alone in this entire world, having no one to be there with you be it, the time where I'm happy, sad, having surgery, suffering and crying alone. Even though I can't end my life because of fear and lack of beavery, I'm living a life of monochrome just to wait for me one day to leave this world be it old, sickness, or accident. I really hope one day I will be free from this anchors of pain, fear and grief.

2023.06.04 06:11 iank3 Is my car screwed?
I have a 2012 Buick Regal with a 2.4l Ecotec engine. Last year, the check engine light came on and after driving it for some time, I finally took it in to get it checked. Turns out, it was a bad oxygen sensor so I got it replaced. No issues for awhile. Then, a couple months ago, I took it in to get the oil changed. They reported that there was no oil on the dipstick when I brought it in, and they couldn't see a leak. I researched this engine and now see that bad piston rings causing oil to get where it's not supposed to be is a common issue with this engine. Called some local mechanics to see if they would look at it, but they said they don't do that and suggested I take it to a GM dealer, and said they would probably just replace the whole engine. I don't live near a dealer and don't really think it's worth it for how much it would cost. Yesterday the check engine light came on and is now throwing a p0420 code (I guess it's a catalytic converter issue?) I'm thinking the oil burning and getting sent through the cat is messing it up. Is this car screwed? Should I take it in to get looked at or just drive it till it dies? Not really interested in spending much more money on this thing, and it drives fine. Just not sure how serious the issue could be.

2023.06.04 05:23 dandinonillion bald Brynolf (HELP)
I’ve got a few hair and beard mods installed and went into creation kit to edit him to my liking, but after I save my changes and load the game he still looks like this. Any advice? The changes loaded once, and then I went back into CK to remove a moustache from Brand-Shei, and Bryn is back rocking the look of my ex-boyfriend’s dad.

2023.06.04 03:30 PJ-Party-Amazon Deck List!
So I got around to creating a
GB Loam Pox list. I might make a GBR list later on if people are interested. The first thing you're likely to notice is that we're running above 60 cards. This is a deliberate choice, as the statistical different between 60 and up to 65 cards is minimal and once you start dredging it basically doesn't matter.
So I figured that I'd break down the choices in the deck and why I've made them.
The non-lands:
Murderous Ride/Swift End: Versatility is good, and it is resistant to removal. Being able to get rid of planeswalkers is very useful, and having access to a body with Lifelink is quite useful against burn.
Abrupt Decay: The exact number really depends on what the meta might look like. But it hits all permanent types, and the uncounterable is a nice bonus.
Assassin's Trophy: Can hit targets that Decay can't. Between the two cards it gives us the ability to handle problematic things, such as Leyline of the Void.
Sudden Edict: Split second is like uncounterable but even better. This on top of smallpox gives us a really great matchup against Bogles and Infect, virtually turning them into free wins. Also can get indestructible creatures on occasion.
Collective Brutality: A great, versatile card that helps against aggro, control, and combo and, most importantly, burn - which truly is a bad matchup for us. There are very few matchups where at least one mode isn't relevant, and the escalate cost is basically free.
Inquisition of Kozilek: Pretty standard GBx hand disruption. The 4th copy is dropped for a Raven's Crime.
Life from the Loam: The titular card in the deck, makes the engine work.
Raven's Crime: This card is, honestly, really really damn good. We don't really care about discarding it, and it gives us something to dump mana into provided we have extra lands. Will singlehandedly win you games against Control and Combo as they simply can't deal with it.
Smallpox: The other titular card of the deck, early game it causes massive tempo swings and severely punishes your opponent if they kept a sketchy one or two land hand.
Thoughtseize: More standard hand disruption. Like IoK, the 4th copy is dropped for a Raven's Crime
Worm Harvest: Primary win condition, considering how much we're dredging and how many lands we're dumping into the yard the game generally won't last much past the point when you start casting this.
Liliana of the Veil: I know that I have previous expressed dislike for Planeswalkers in this deck, but that mainly applies to Wrenn and Six. LotV is mainly here for a nice combo package of more discard and removal, with the ult being nice icing on the cake but not at all necessary. Doesn't matter if she dies, so a great way to bait your opponent and buy yourself more time to win.
The Lands:
Barren Moor: This card isn't
really in the deck as a land. It's a recurable instant speed cantrip, that is great for digging through your deck faster or to save Loam from getting hit with Surgical.
Blooming Marsh: One of the best parts of running two colours instead of three is getting access to this land. We curve out at 3, for the most part, so it entering tapped as our 4th land probably won't matter.
Boseiju, Who Endures: A very solid card, although I initially misread it and thought it only let them get basics. Not quite as good since it lets them grab duals or triomes, but it's a reuable source of removal which is great.
Dakmor Salvage: Great backup dredge source if you do lose access to Loam. I've found having access to one is just...nice.
Forest: Gotta be basic!
Ghost Quarter: Could probably be a two-of, but I like having access to at least one.
Hissing Quagmire: I don't like lands that enter tapped due to have crucial early game speed is for us, but having a deathtouch blocker that we can get back is useful.
Hive of the Eye Tyrant: I had literally no idea that this card existed until I was putting this deck together, and I gotta say that I really like it. The graveyard hate is very slow but potentially useful, but having access to a manland that doesn't slow down the early game is really good.
Lair of the Hydra: Same as the previous card; manlands that don't slow us down are great. And it's an excellent mana sink that could potentially end up being a really thicc boy.
Overgrown Tomb: Gotta have those duals!
Prismatic Vista: Not necessarily vital in a two color deck, but it helps to smooth out our colors in the early game and I've found that any variant of Loam wants to have 7 to 9 fetches.
Swamp: Gotta be basic!!
Tranquil Thicket: More cycling lands!
Twilight Mire: really good mana fixing, can let you do a green source turn one into a turn 2 smallpox.
Verdant Catacombs: Gotta get that mana fixing
Sideboard:
Endurance: Protects our graveyard and gives us an option against theirs.
Golgari Brownscale: reusable lifegain against burn
Darkblast: Not useful against every deck, but when this card is good it's win-you-the-game-good
Veil of Summer: One of the most overpowered cards WotC has printed recently. As a blue player I absolute fcking hate this card. But jeez is it REAL nice to have access to! Really helpful for Pact of Negation, which we don't want exiling our Loams.
Maelstrom Pulse: Good against tokens. Could easily be replaced with something else.
Raven's Crime: Third copy to guarantee we hit it against the matchups where it can win us the game.
Syphon Life: really useful against burn, if to buy time than nothing else.
Boseiju, Who Endures: One extra copy for any matchups that might hinge on it, altho I'm honestly not sure what those might be.
Ghost Quarter: 2 more of these because I ABSOLUTELY HATE TRON. Literally no other reason.

2023.06.04 03:02 Form-Early Bialetti Moka Express vs Imusa Moka Pot - Is It Worth Spending The Extra Money?
| I have been brewing coffee for the past month using a Bialetti Moka Express and an Imusa 1 cup moka pot. This is my comparison and review of the two pots on the differences in construction, how they perform, and whether I think the price difference is worth it. Price The Bialetti cost $29.30, and for nearly 1/3 of the price, $9.99 for the Imusa. Construction Overall, the Bialetti is substantially heavier, and the finish is more polished. The Imusa has a narrower appearance but is shorter. The Bialetti has 8 sides (octagon), while the Imusa has 10 (decagon). Water Chamber The Bialetti's water chamber weighs 260g without the filter, about 75% heavier than the Imusa (148g). The base has a diameter of 64mm. The base is polished and flat. Most of the water chamber interior is machined to a smooth polish. The interior floor of the chamber has machined steps and there is a machined edge in the upper third of the chamber that acts as a reference for the water fill line. The safety valve appears to be made out of stainless and is larger than the Imusa's. The safety valve can also be manually opened from the outside in case it becomes stuck. The Imusa's water chamber interior is unfinished. There is a spiral textured finish on the base as well as on the interior floor of the chamber. The safety valve on the Imusa seems like it is made of brass and the valve is smaller than the Bialetti's. Filter Basket Overall the Bialetti filter basket seems to be of higher quality from the polished finish and the pressed areas that firmly hold the filter plate in place. The filter plate has "MADE IN ITALY" stamped on it, in case anyone needed a reminder of where their moka pot was made. The Imusa's filter basket has a dull finish and some of the pressed areas that hold the filter plate aren't uniform and do not seem as secure. The filter baskets from both brands are close in dimensions, but they aren't interchangeable. Even though both have the same diameter at the flare, the diameter of the basket itself is different, and so are the flare profiles. If one had no other choice, the Imusa filter basket could be used in the Bialetti, but there could be issues with forming a tight seal with the gasket. The Bialetti filter basket is too large and won't fit in the Imusa chamber. Gasket and Top Filter Plate The Bialetti's top filter plate has finer holes than the Imusa, is slightly concave, and is stamped with "MADE IN ITALY". The Bialetti gasket material is rubber, while the Imusa uses a silicone gasket. Both filter plates have the same filter diameter of 40mm. The Top Chamber Starting with the external appearance, once again Bialetti shows signs of higher build quality. The Bialetti logo and model name is clearly printed in black. The Imusa has a duller finish with just the "Imusa" brand laser etched underneath the spout. Both pots have thermoplastic handles. The Imusa's handle has a basic design, while the Bialetti's handle is more stylish. On my Imusa pot, the pin holding the handle and the lid in place protrudes on one side, while the Bialetti fits flush on both sides. The interior of the top chamber on the Bialetti is more polished, but the chimney outlet has jagged edges as if someone forgot to perform the finishing touches during production. In contrast, the Imusa's chimney outlet is smooth. The lid is nothing special on either pot, but on the Bialetti, the screw that secures the knob in place is countersunk and sits flush, while on the Imusa, the screw seems out of place. Lastly, the pour spout on the Bialetti is narrower than the Imusa. The Bialetti tends to pour more cleanly than the Imusa. Performance To test the performance of both pots, I will be using an electric range, room temperature water, and 6 grams of medium ground coffee. Both of the pots will be placed on the same burner at the same time. I will record the time it takes for the first signs of percolation and the final gurgling stages. Finally, I will record how much coffee each pot yields. When filling the water chamber, the Bialetti is easier to fill since I can use either the bottom of the safety valve or the fill line as a reference. With the Imusa, I only have the valve as a reference and so I have to position the water chamber so that I can see the back of the valve during filling. The Bialetti's water chamber takes 64g of water to fill and the Imusa takes 76g. Very interesting that the Imusa uses more water. With heat set at medium, the Bialetti shows the first signs of percolation at 3:25 and the final gurgling stage occurs at 4:35. For the Imusa, percolation starts at 6:01 and the gurgling stage happens at 6:23. It takes the Imusa almost twice as long to show signs of percolation. When it does occur, it happens very fast, and I have to keep my eye on it. With the Bialetti, there's a more steady flow of coffee and it takes a little bit longer to reach the gurgling stage after coffee first streams out of the chimney. The way each pot reaches the final gurgling stage is different. With the Imusa, the gurgling stage happens very quickly after the first signs of percolation. If left on the heat, the pot will violently spew out steam and water. I found it best to either lower the heat or remove it from the heat entirely once the top chamber is around half full. The pot will continue to percolate from residual heat. Now for the Bialetti, towards the end of the brewing process, the pot will reach a soft gurgling stage, subside, percolate a little bit more, and then it will reach its final gurgling event, but it is nowhere near as violent as the Imusa. I believe it has something to do with the different steps machined on the floor of the Bialetti pot. I go into further detail about this in a previous post. The Bialetti yields around 46g of coffee and the Imusa at 45g. Pretty much the same. Looking at the water chamber post-brew, the Imusa has more residual water than the Bialetti. So how does the brew taste? Surprisingly, they taste the same despite the discernable performance differences. So is it worth it? Honestly, it all depends! Do you just want a good cup of coffee without breaking the bank? The Imusa Moka Pot is for you! It requires some extra heat monitoring, but only at the end of the brew. If going with the Imusa, I would suggest recording the time it takes to reach the first signs of percolation on your burner so that you can just set a timer and do other things while it builds pressure. If you want a beautiful piece of coffee-brewing kitchenware that is well-engineered, and not have to monitor the brewing process as much, go with the Bialetti. After much experimentation, with the right heat settings, I just set the pot on the stove, listen for the final gurgling stages and I have my coffee. Replacement parts are also readily available so this is something that will last a long time and can be passed on to loved ones. | Bialetti Moka Express (1 cup) | Imusa Moka Pot (1 cup) | First Signs of Percolation | 03:25 | 06:01 | Final Gurgling Stage | 04:35 | 06:23 | Coffee Yield | 46g | 45g | Specs: | Bialetti Moka Express (1 cup) | Imusa Moka Pot (1 cup) | Price | $29.30 | $9.99 | Weight of Entire Pot | 260g | 148g | Weight of Water Chamber (without funnel) | 115g | 63g | Water Chamber Base Diameter | 64mm | 62mm | Water Chamber Capacity | 62g | 76g | Filter Basket Height | 46mm | 45mm | Filter Basket Funnel Diameter | 11.5mm | 11mm | Filter Basket Diameter | 43mm | 42mm | Filter Basket Diameter @ Flare | 46mm | 46mm | Filter Plate Diameter | 40mm | 40mm | Spiral texture on the floor of the Imusa pot. 2023.06.04 01:24 gaslightanthemarias Balancing true off-road and highway capability in favor of off-road: Toyota or bust?
Location: USA, TX
Price range: $20k is the edge of actually affordable, <$15k would be much smarter and more comfortable. $30k max if I'm being as reckless with financing as most Americans these days.
Lease or Buy: Buy
New or used: Budget says used, but not 100% opposed to new with the state of the used market.
Type of vehicle: SUV preferred, open to small truck or crossovewagon.
Must haves: - 4WD w/ 4LO (or very robust AWD), 8in+ ground clearance, decent approach/breakovedeparture angles, full-size spare
- reasonable maneuverability (not super wide, decent turning radius).
- reasonable long-haul highway comfort/manners (cruise control, no death wobble or excessive wandering)
- room for 4 adults and their gear, good cargo space for extended camping, room to sleep in total area behind front seats
- buttons (not touchscreen) for key functions (climate, radio, lights, vehicle modes) full-size spare,
- acceptable fuel mileage (min 18mpg highway)
- decent visibility (no major blindspots, stupid big flat hood, tiny rear windshield, etc)
Desired transmission: Automatic preferred, manual not a total dealbreaker
Intended use: 50% of anticipated miles will be adventure trips w/ a partner or friends (ie 90% highway, 10% remote offroad). NOT intended for deliberate rock-crawling or hardcore wheeling, overlanding, etc.
Other 50% will be occasional grocery-getting, poor-weather commuting, and cross-town errands and socializing in a highway-heavy city with clogged arteries and narrow neighborhood roads.
At home, I want it to have good utility for giving friends rides, schlepping furniture and bikes, and being a reliable source of mobility in crises.
I DON'T need a typical commuter, and willing to accept compromises in efficiency as result. My "daily driver" is my bicycle, including for most local errands. Expecting 5-10k mi/year, majority highway.
Is this your 1st vehicle: Yes (but as a someone who has been driving for 15 years)
Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Fluids, pads, sparkplugs, pads, bulbs: yes. Intend to do more, so important for this work to be somewhat cheap/easy in a driveway context.
Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: Likely not anytime soon. Important for these systems to be dependable and not crazy expensive to have work done on.
Additional Notes: - Safety is important (people drive insane everywhere these days but especially my area, also many deehogs on expected trips).
- Real off-road capabilities needed for responsible, self-reliant travel in remote areas, but not in a recreational enthusiast way. Don't intend to make wheeling/overlanding a hobby or expect to have similarly-equipped friends to bail me out in these situations. Terrain including but limited to sandy arroyos, steep loose-rock. I don't want to be in a vehicle punching above its weight, I want to be in one that's in its element.
- Major weather events that I'd like the vehicle to handle reasonably well include: downpours on oil-slicked roads, and occasional ice and snow storms (generally with no plowing, salting, or sanding). I realize this points more to AWD and good tires for close-to-home usage.
- Renting a true 4WD vehicle only when I need it: No, in those situations I want it to be my vehicle that I know, trust, and am personally responsible for, and I don't want to deal with the additional logistics of renting.
Vehicles you've already considered: Initial bumpers: nothing larger than a 4-door short-bed Tacoma/Frontier, nothing smalleless capable than a Crosstrek.
Most likely contenders so far:
- Lexus GX 470
- + Full-time 4WD with Torsen seems like best of both worlds of 4WD/AWD for all of my adverse-condition capability desires
- + Probably the best-driving of the "trucks"
- + (y'all know the rest, I won't go too deep)
- - difficulty in finding affordable one in good shape
- - Efficiency of FT 4WD w/ v8
- - Honestly too fancy, I dislike most luxury trappings
- Toyota 4Runner (3rd-5th Gen)
- + 4Runner shit
- + Full-time 4WD found on a few select trims too (but probably too competitive of a market for me to seek them out)
- + Efficiency of V6 a bit better (don't think I need more really)
- - pretty rough around the edges for the price, not impressed with brakes in particular
- - Market is crazy, hard to justify vs value proposition of the GX
- - 5th Gen feels too big (esp wide)
- Subaru Outback (2010s+)
- + Perennial do-it-all underdog.
- + 5-10mpg better than the "trucks"
- - Worried that it just won't cut it for expected offroad (AWD losing power to wheelspin and low articulation, CVT issues), and the most capable versions (XTs, Wilderness) compromise efficiency, affordability, and repair costs/ease to the point of having no real advantage vs anything beefier.
- - Low ride-height not an asset on truck-filled Texas roads
- - "Car" advantages pretty minimal, feels closer to a unibody SUV.
- - Not super impressed by real-world reliability and cost/ease of repair of 2010s models
The Maybes:
- Nissan Xterra (2nd Gen)
- + More affordable version of GX/4R
- - ...but at a commensurate loss in reliability and comforts (especially vs GX). Out of production, and well-cared-for survivors seem rare.
- Toyota Tacoma (4-door, short bed)
- + It's a Taco
- - I can't really justify a truck bed (I know, I know, that hasn't stopped 95% of Tacoma owners before me), and would need a Softopper or camper shell to keep gear safe, and maybe also an extender to sleep inside a 4-door version.
- - A bit longer than I want for trails and parking lots
- Nissan Frontier
The Close-But-Probably-Nots:
- Toyota FJ Cruiser
- - trash visibility
- - Big exterior, small interior
- - Cult Following and Toyota Tax
- Other Subarus (Forester, Crosstek)
- + Better visibility/ride height (Forester)
- + Better maneuverability, angles (Forester, esp Crosstek)
- - Less cargo space (esp Crosstek)
- - Less powecapability
- - No real additional value proposition over Outback
- Jeeps (Wrangler Unlimited, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee)
- + Most efficient smaller 4WDs
- + Ease of maintenance
- - Reliability below my acceptable threshold for remote and solo
- - Wrangler too off-road focused for 1000mi+ roadtrips.
- Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4, etc
- See Forester
- - below off-road capability threshold.
- Old stuff
- It seems like they stopped making what I really want in the mid-2000s. ~'95-'05 Cherokee XJ/ZJ, Pathfinder, Rodeo, Trooper, Montero, Sidekick, Tracker, etc. The few that are left often fit the budget, but with serious concerns about reliability, safety, and remaining life. Ultimately, I don't think I'd trust one of these long-distance or in the backcountry unless it was a really prime specimen (which is rare/expensive).
TL;DR: Please confirm that a 4Runner or GX is the only thing that really makes sense, than an Outback won't cut it, that I did good research, and that I look good in this dress. (Or please point out if I'm off-base or missing something) Thanks!

2023.06.03 23:48 Mikesavageusa Mike Savage New Canaan Classic Cars - The Best Muscle Cars
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines muscle cars as, "any of a group of American-made 2-door sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving." Although opinions vary, it is often cited that the 1949 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 is the first muscle car ever created. It was designed with speed and power in mind, using a powerful engine with a lightweight body.
By the mid-1970s some of this market converged into personal luxury performance cars, thus beginning an era where personal luxury trumped lightweight speed.
Performance-type cars began to make a return in the United States during the 1980s, however with new regulations governing safety and pollution combined with increased production costs, these new vehicles were not designed to the formula of the traditional low-cost muscle cars. Introducing electronic fuel injection and overdrive transmission to the remaining muscle car survivors like the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird helped sustain a market share for them alongside personal luxury coupes with performance packages.
Mike Savage New Canaan Karl Brauer, editor-in-chief of the online car review aggregator "Total Car Score" is a self-described fanatic who characterizes muscle cars as his "primary passion." He compiled a list of what he considers 10 classic American muscle cars, saying, "Vintage car collectors consider these must-haves!"
Karl Brauer's list:
• 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 • 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am SD455 • 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 • 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS6 • 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge Ram Air IV • 1968 Ford Mustang GT500KR • 1969 Ford Boss 429 Mustang • 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona Hemi • 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda • 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
Car buffs sometimes refer to classic muscle cars as "overpowered iron beasts" because these cars were built to deliver and beating and also to take one. They often burned rubber, and were anything but agile. Big, heavy, loud and rude, they embodied everything that was great about the American auto industry of the 1960s and 1970s.
American car-maker Chevrolet offered many different types, beginning with the Corvette in 1953, adding the Impala, Chevelle, El Camino, and Nova to its ranks throughout the years.
Dodge threw their hat into the ring beginning with the 1966 Charger, adding the Challenger and Super Bee thereafter.
Other American car-makers offerings include:
• AMC's AMX and Javelin • Buick's Grand National • Ford's Mustang and Thunderbird • Mercury's Cougar • Oldsmobile's Olds 442 • Plymouth's Barracuda and GTX • Pontiac's Firebird and GTO
Restoring When restoring muscle cars, people have differing views on whether staying true to the original factory's work is the best way to go, or whether improving on anything you can is better. One thing to keep in mind is that a well-documented restoration performed by a renowned shop will always hold more value than one that's undocumented or completed by an unknown shop or individuals.
Customizing Muscle cars are experiencing a resurgence in popularity, however finding one in mint condition is near impossible. Finding one that needs to be restored, and/or customized is a different story. So many different things about these cars can be customized, it is best to do your research on what features you would like to customize before getting a bid from someone.
Most likely people who own custom car shops are huge car fans who have learned the skills to do something they truly enjoy doing. Ask to see some of their work before going with a custom car shop, and remember it's OK to barter when asking for custom work to be done to your muscle car.

2023.06.03 23:47 fuck_you_hercules Suspension concerns
Hello everyone, I have my ‘09 Escape wit about 147,000 miles one it and I recently got it back from a mechanic for replacing the ignition switch. This mechanic advised me that the suspension felt “loose” and will need “a lot of work”, without mentioning what part of the suspension actually needed work. I took it with a grain of salt because that’s how mechanics always are. My question is, what are your guy’s experience? Will there really need to be a complete overhaul at this mileage? I know about the pesky sway bar links on the driver’s front wheel and maybe my wheel bearings are getting worn but I want to be prepared if it’s gonna cost like 2 grand. The car is a little bouncy but it’s a tall SUV with miles on it, otherwise it doesn’t lean while driving and looks fine when parked. Would love some insight from y’all

2023.06.03 23:36 Blade_Dragonfire 2009 Outback with flat 6/5EAT. Picked car up after P1710 trans fix, got less than 10 miles and got P0705 trans code. Shop claims coincidence, I think it's related to the work they did?
Vehicle: 2009 Subaru Outback 3.0R Limited
Engine: EZ30 flat 6
Transmission: 5EAT
Bit long, but has background info, sorry in advance!
As noted in the title, I had a P1710 Torque converter turbine 2 speed signal code. It was drive-able, but would occasionally slam N->D and going into 3rd gear. Common fix online is to drop the valve body, and wire in a new hall effect sensor (the part that fails), instead of replacing the entire valve body + harness (sensor is attached to top side of valve body). Most shops I called wanted to do a full transmission replacement, but the Subaru shop I go to said they've worked on many of these and they replace and wire in a new sensor, instead of replacing the entire valve body. Cost given was ~$700, vs $2000+ for full valve body replacement, so I agreed.
Dropped the car off Wednesday, got a call it was done Thursday morning, I couldn't pick it up til Friday. Pick it up early Friday afternoon, drives great. Fill it up with gas and wash it since it's been sitting for a few weeks since I wasn't driving it while waiting for shop to take it. Did some light driving + some full throttle on ramp merges, all is well.
Until I get off the highway. Boom, car drops out of gear, into what felt like 3rd, all sorts of dash lights. Almost no acceleration, pretty sure it's locked in 3rd gear. Limp it home a few blocks so I'm home in case I need a tow. Call shop, speak to tech that worked on my car. He asks what code, I tell him P0705 - AT range switch circuit malfunction, and the car does not say what gear it is in, and all the dash lights that are lit. He says to clear the code with my code reader, which I do, and now it won't even start. Dead, nothing. Had to get it towed back to their shop. Note: I drove it something like ~10 miles from the shop to home.
Tech on the phone says he didn't touch that sensor, and it's external to this year transmission. He claims it's a coincidence and that the P1710 code was masking the P0705 code, but I read the codes with BtSSM, and also, it actually drove before dropping it off, which it currently does not. Additionally, a quick google shows multiple people saying the AT range switch is part of the valve body and harness, and I confirmed this by reading the FSM:
"Inhibitor switch cannot be checked, because the inhibitor switch is installed on control valve assembly. When a malfunction occurs, refer to 5AT (diag) section. "
Personally, this seems more than likely related to the work done since they dropped the valve body, and were messing around with the trans harness, and I hate to pull the "you were the last ones to touch it" card, they were the last ones to touch it, and I got less than 10 miles from the shop before I broke down.
I hate being demanding, but is it ok to ask the shop to "make this right" so to speak? I didn't even make it home from the shop before breaking down. Am I wrong here?

2023.06.03 22:33 No_Coach8840 My family is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with the Boomer generation in India.
Dad: Born in the 50s to a government school teacher. Had 6 siblings which is very typical of his generation. Manages to get a
B.Tech Chemical Engineering seat in Andhra University with full scholarship. Their family was so poor, they couldn't even buy him shoes to send him off to college. Gets into college. Gets bullied for being poor. Some rich kids fuck up his titration in a lab and nearly get him failed which would have costed him his scholarship.
Dates someone during his
M.Tech in AU. Gets married. Drops out of
M.Tech. Has an ugly fight with his wife. He beats her. She divorces him and reports him to the police. My dad at that time had a job offer in the gulf in one of those petrol refining plants. Because of his police case his Visa or Passport is cancelled. He loses custody of his child.
Mom: Born to a CA. Surprisingly had just 1 sister. His dad was dirt poor initially. He starts helping some of the most prominent builders get away without paying taxes. He would literally hold their money in his house when they were about to get audited. If you don't know, being a CA in the 50s or 60s in India is essentially like being a Machine learning scientist with a Ph.D. in 2023. Leaves his kids property worth 15 crores. My mom gets a
B.Com from Reddy college in Narayanaguda. Gets married off to an asshole. He beats her a lot. Abuses her. She divorces him. The society back then was ridiculously conservative. She gets bullied a fuck of a lot because of her divorce.
She still finds the courage to go to Maharashtra to do a LL.B. Drops off in the second year and marries my dad because her father is very sick.
The quintessential 90s marriage: My dad has a lot of unresolved emotional issues. He brought his mom to live with them. He accuses my mom of not taking good care of her. They fight a lot. I was born. My dad loses job several times. My mom sells her jewellery to finance my schooling. In my 10th, her sister passes away. She sells of a land that her dad left her. Takes me to Hyderabad to get me IIT coaching. I experience freedom for the first time in my life. My dad is no longer there to control me. I buy expensive computer parts and phones. I stopped attending school. Somehow managed to get my 10th and 12th diplomas anyways. Get into a shitty college in Vizag for
B.Tech. Labor through it. Get a Masters from a prominent college in America. Get some really nice paying jobs.
Now my mom is still living with my dad. I caught him hitting my mom last year when I was in India. I gave him two slaps and pinned him to the ground. Threaten to call the police on him. He starts crying and shit. In the past he forced my mom to give one of the houses my grand father left her for rent. The tenant is refusing to vacate. We have essentially lost that property. My asshole father refuses to help with that situation in any way. He straight up went to the tenant and asked him to buy the house. He is using that as a leverage to fight with us every time we ask him to vacate the house.
My mom gives another land she owns to development. That builder is trying to get her to sell all her shares of apartments for a lot of Black money. I am fighting with her like crazy. She is like my father is a CA I know how to adjust black money :
I am fed up of my life. Fed up of this shitty family politics.

2023.06.03 22:23 Cheap_Thought4473 VVT solenoid 2009 Ford edge replacement
Looking for advice on approximately how much it would cost to replace the VVT solenoid in bank one and bank two for 2009 Ford edge. Got a quote of $1300 from an independent garage no Ford dealers close by. The engine code only said bank one but maybe he figures you have to do both? I don't know. $240 in parts $90 for oil change and $70 for seals. $875 labor

2023.06.03 21:49 GoForMe13 2015 Jeep Cherokee Brake Help
Hi There!
I’m a very lightly experienced car owner (read: I took auto shop in high school and know the absolute basics but make no claims on knowing all there is to know about my car).
I’ve had my 2015 Jeep Cherokee since it was new. I have about 133,000 miles on it. I feel like my brakes are wearing down/having issues more frequently than they should. My suspicion is that I keep winding up with cheaper brakes that wear faster (my rims are covered in black brake dust all the time).
Currently my front brakes shake a bit and have just started to squeak a bit, so I know it’s time to get some work done. The rotors were cut and pads replaced on my front brakes in Sept 2022 and those are the ones that have started squeaking now.
I’d like to buy a set of decent rotors and pads for my car to have my mechanic put on that won’t wear so easily.
So I’m looking for 2 things: 1. A recommendation for a decent brand of pads/rotors I can buy that won’t wear as quickly as the cheaper ones I’ve had. 2. Any thoughts on why my brakes might be wearing so quickly? (I realize this one is much tougher to diagnose but while I’m here I figured I’d ask).
Thanks in advance!

2023.06.03 21:27 Own_Organization_201 CEL/Evap leak on Honda Odyssey 2000.. advice/next steps?
We recently had a power steering hose leak, but replaced it at home. CEL stayed on. When we went to get a transmission flush the technician said we had a leak in the transmision and somewhere else(? i think he said near the engine). He advised us to check our fluids every 15k miles, and Auto zone checked and said we have a EVAP leak.
CEL has been on for roughly 4 months and I'm sick of it, but I'm broke, I only have $1k in savings. How much money should I save for the worst case scenario cost to fix this?

2023.06.03 20:47 Inevitable-Ad-8597 23 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit night vision, something I didn't know I needed till now 😆 At night warm objects glow yellow, for people and animals in the roadway. Wild. Also this thing got self drive mode. Dang
