2023.06.02 23:12 EatinSLOCal SloDoCo - Foothill Location - Review
| Background: Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, my teen years were spent around these fancy modern doughnut shops (we spelled it with the traditional “doughnut,” not “donut,” to distinguish it from a Krispy Kreme or a Dunkin’, so hip) like Voodoo Doughtnut with their fun designs and innovative flavors. It took a decade, but it finally spread beyond our hipster borders and things like a bacon maple bar finally spread across the country. I was elated in October of 2010 to learn that there was a new doughtnut spot selling bacon maple bars in town. So in honor of #NationalDonutDay, we dropped by SloDoCo’s original Foothill location to celebrate. Dozen Box Setting: 📍Foothill Plaza, 793F Foothill Blvd, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405 SloDoCo is located in Foothill Plaza with additional locations in Sunshine Donuts’ former location at the corner of Higuera and South street as well as one in Atascadero. The Foothill location has become a popular place to study with a good amount of tables and space to sit at. The doughtnuts are on display as you walk in with a secondary case to the side with the vegan and gluten free options. They are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (at both SLO Locations, 5AM-9PM in Atascadero). Assorted Dozen Doughnuts Menu/Selection: SloDoCo makes over 100 types of doughtnuts a day! That’s amazing! I’ll do my best to write out the menu, but I may miss some. The buttermilk bars and old fashioneds come in plain, glazed, chocolate, and maple. Cake doughtnut options include plain, cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, crumb, snickerdoodle, and then the following four flavors chocolate, maple, strawberry, and vanilla either by itself, with sprinkles, chocolate chips, peanuts, or coconut shreds. Devil’s Food Cake doughtnuts come topped in chocolate, chocolate with sprinkles, chocolate with peanuts, chocolate with shredded coconut, mint frosting, and mint chocolate chip. Raised doughnuts come in chocolate, glazed, maple, sugar, crumb, coconut, lavender, chocolate sprinkle, strawberry sprinkle, vanilla sprinkle, and circus animal cookies. Filled doughtnuts are filled with either Vienna cream, lemon jelly, chocolate dobash, raspberry jelly, crème brulee, and espresso. Bars are the classics – chocolate, maple, and maple bacon. Twists come in glazed, chocolate, cinnamon, and sugar. Pillows options are chocolate chocolate chip, maple chocolate chip, Nutella, peanut butter & jelly, strawberry cream cheese, boysenberry cream cheese, pumpkin pie, cream cheese, chai cream cheese, peanut butter, and milk & cookies. There are two types of bear claws, regular glazed and crumb, a blueberry cake, cereal topped raised with Fruity Pebbles, Captain Crunch, and other options, their Galaxy marshmallow, “Do Cros” and an apple fritter. They do croissants as well – plain, ham & cheese, jalapeno ham & cheese, chocolate, and strawberry cream cheese. Finally for out Gluten Free friends there is chocolate, lavender, vanilla, and maple, and for the Vegans there is vanilla, cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, maple, and chocolate. On top of all those, they have monthly specials, for June there is a Gluten Free or Vegan Strawberry Donut Sando, an Apricot Mousse Filled Glazed Raised, Pride Rings, Matcha Old Fashioned, Hedgehog Donut Holes, Spring Flower Raised, Slice O’ Melon Raised, and 3 Monsters, Inc. inspired doughtnuts, a Monster Mike cake, Silly Sully raised, and Boo’s Door bar. There’s also a Drink Menu with the usual hot drinks coffee, tea, cocoa, cider, espresso, lattes, etc, as well as cold drinks from the cases. Orange Pride Ring Raised Doughnut What I Had: I grabbed an assorted dozen of my choosing – Fruity Pebbles Raised, Glazed Blueberry Cake, Strawberry Sprinkles Cake, Monster Mike Vanilla Frosting Cake, Bacon Maple Bar, Orange Pride Ring Vanilla Frosting Raised topped with whipped cream and sprinkles, Glazed Buttermilk Bar, Chocolate Old Fashioned, Galaxy Marshmallow Frosting Raised, Cinnabomb, Slice O’ Melon Watermelon Frosting Raised, and a Nutella Filled Pillow. I got a mix of my favorites and the June specials. Focusing on the June Specials I got, let’s start with the Pride Ring, which was a raised ring doughtnut with vanilla frosting that came in all the colors of the classic Pride Flag, and topped with whipped cream and sprinkles, which was really fun! I noticed the Galaxy Doughnut, which is a raised with marshmallow frosting in a swirled rainbow, also has the sprinkles on it. The Slice O’ Melon is a triangle shaped raised doughnut dipped in watermelon frosting decorated like a slice of watermelon, which was weird. Watermelon is a weird frosting flavor, it tasted correct, but it was a strange combo with the rest of the sugar. The Monster Mike was fun, I like cake doughnuts, and the vanilla frosting was a pretty good Mike. Marshmallow Galaxy Doughnut As for some of my favorites, the Bacon Maple Bar is a classic, if you haven’t had one, you need to. My only note about the SloDoCo one is that it they super crumble the bacon, which is great for not having to bite through a bacon strip like on Voodoo’s but the crumble doesn’t totally stick to the maple frosting and falls off everywhere. Blueberry cake glazed is another one of my favorites, having first had it through Top Pot Doughnuts in Seattle, SloDoCo does an amazing job with theirs, I get one every time. Their Cereal Raised are always fun, I often switch between the Fruity Pebbles and the Captain Crunch, the contrast of textures is key. The Cinnabomb started out as a special and I think is a staple at this point, it’s like having a cinnamon roll stuffed in a raised glazed. Finally, the glazed buttermilk bar and old fashioned are always on point, can’t go wrong with them. SloDoCo might make some crazy fun doughnuts, but they also make the classics well. Would I Have It Again: Yes, of course. Doughtnuts are always fresh. They’re always open. I occasionally will drop in here late at night since they’re one of the only places left open. SloDoCo is a staple in this town, and their monthly specials keep things fresh and innovative. So with all of this in mind, SloDoCo – Foothill Location gets an Eatin’ SLOCal rating of – Take-Out Now! submitted by EatinSLOCal to EatinSLOCal [link] [comments] |
2023.06.02 22:36 Last_Canary_6622 Travels Throughout the US: Breakdown of Notable Places Part 1
- Birmingham: I'm honestly surprised at how bad traffic can get in Birmingham, especially considering I've been in bigger cities that managed it better. I pray no major natural disaster happens in Birmingham because the location is not ideal. The city is essentially in a bowl. Zoo was neat though. Are there any particular Pan African celebrations that occur in that area because when I went, there was African decorations everywhere like a block away from the zoo? Milo's makes the best tea!!
- Daytona Beach: We rented a condo for a family reunion there when I was 12. I didn't see the "trashy" things that Daytona Beach is ragged on for now. I just remember seeing dolphins from the balcony early in the morning and kayaking in the Atlantic with my aunt. Good times.
- Destin/Ft. Walton Beach: The best sand of any beach in the US (and I've been to Oahu).
- Orlando: I went to Disney World and Sea World when I was in kindergarten in the 90s. I remember it of course being a magical time for a child but I want to go down there again one day to see the city through adult eyes.
- Panama City: Didn't go to PCB but I'm glad I got to see the area right before Hurricane Michael tore through.
- Tampa: Similar deal to Orlando but I was a little bit older and very much remember Busch Gardens and a pirate ship ride on the Gulf. Also, saw Lilo & Stitch in a theater there when it came out.
- Albany (GA): I didn't particularly stop anywhere in Albany but driving through on the way to Florida, sometimes you can just tell something is in the air. Albany was the most depressing place I've been in so far. Just gave off that vibe.
- Athens (GA): Suburbs are almost stereotypically perfect. The city has the narrowest residential streets I have ever driven on. There were some neighborhoods where I couldn't tell if I was in the ghetto or just a neighborhood of broke college kids. The asian nachos at Taqueria Tsunami are a meal in and of themselves. Love stopping in Athens for food on my way to and back from the mountains. Be careful though. Atlanta is full and once Savannah and its suburbs are full, ya'll are next.
- Atlanta: First of all, love the skyline. I'm a sucker for bright lights and skyscrapers. Friend of mine used to think that Atlanta was just tall buildings and a place people drove through rather than a place people actually lived, lol. I wonder how many wrecks were caused by something shiny. But yeah, the traffic is the 2nd worst I've ever experienced (only DC was worse and I've been to Boston). Plenty of good memories up here. Falcons games; I consider myself fortunate to have seen Tony Gonzalez play live. Also bad memories like getting blown out in a state title game. Regardless, I miss the Georgia Dome. I know this may not be popular to say on here but I enjoyed Stone Mountain for what it was: a day trip and a pretty view at the top. The park goes all out for Christmas. Would bring my own food next time though. Food recommendations: Fogo de Chao (Buckhead and Dunwoody); Fox Bros BBQ. The airport is the best in the United States. I'm impressed at how an airport that big and busy could run so smoothly compared to other airports. Funny airport stories (all of this happened on my way to San Antonio):
- On the shuttle up there, we are 15 minutes away and the older guy sitting on the seat across from me says this to the driver; one grown man to another: "Mr. Driver, can we pull over and go to the bathroom?"
- Driver: "No, we're almost there." Then this guy and the other old dude sitting next to him start talking about how holding it in can lead to increased risk of bladder cancer.
- Almost witnessed a dog fight between two pitbulls and a boxer as the pits were coming off the plane.
- Overheard two employees talking about Louis Farrakhan was visiting in a couple weeks and my mind just started forming the Christmas carol "Farrakhan is Coming to Town."
- Columbus (GA): Big for a Georgia city but just a whole of nothing with the exception of the army base and the Riverwalk area. Ziplining into Alabama over the river was a pleasure. Downtown reminds of Macon's downtown. Unfortunately, I know several smaller places that feel more alive.
- Macon: Underrated downtown. Everything south of that is just scary. Hasn't moved on from the 70s.
- Savannah: Love it everytime I go. Take a ride on the Georgia Queen. Best pecan pie I've ever had was on the riverboat ride. Was surprised to see Dolphins in the river. I'm a sucker for cobblestone streets so of course I enjoyed River Street. Passed by an accapela group singing Royals. The Low Country has the best shrimp n grits.
- Honolulu: Would move there in a heartbeat if it wasn't so expensive and so far away from the mainland US. I did not want to leave. Freshest food I've ever had. Best ice cream I've ever had was at the Dole Pineapple Factory. Did the Pearl Harbor Tour but didn't get to go on the USS Arizona because I believe they were doing some preservation treatment on it. Bluest water I've ever seen was at Hanauma Bay. Waikiki had the best sunsets I've ever seen. I remember quietly crying at the beauty all around me. Incredibly grateful I got to go before COVID. Funny enough, I saw my first organized political protest there. They were protesting the building of new condos for the sake of the employment of hotel workers.
- Boston: Boston traffic was different from what I was expecting. It wasn't that traffic was backed up, it was that it was moving. Gotta be aggressive to merge in and be aggressive with the flow. I have also never seen so many toll roads in my life. There was one literally right outside Logan right before you exit the tunnel. Almost a literal troll under the bridge. At our hotel, the Fire Lane was spelled "Frie Lane." IBut I was up there for a work trip and had to go to a suburb instead. I want to go back to Boston one day and give it a fair chance cause I didn't get to really experience it.
- Minneapolis: Perfect weather in the summer. The Minnesota accent is real. Very kind and polite people. Grateful I got to visit before the George Floyd incident.
- Kansas City: Great BBQ. I didn't get to stay long but it felt like a really big country town.
- Springfield (MO): Worth it for the Bass Pro Shop. Went there when it was the biggest one.
- St. Louis: Definitely has its issues. Most homeless people I've seen so far (haven't been to the West Coast yet). Saw one walking around with his butt hanging and I thought I saw two of them die from overdose two days in a row. St. Louis seemingly handles it homeless population better than other big cities though. You've got your stragglers but I saw most of them were confined to one park across the street from Union Station. Also has the most abandoned and boarded up buildings I've ever seen in a city that big, especially in downtown. The air smelled of cigarettes and weed. All that being said, underrated city. One of my favorite downtowns I've visited in terms of things to do. Had a lot more fun here than in KC. This city has the potential to be great again in the right hands and I pray it happens to ya'll. But seriously, you've gotta get better lights. Darkest interstate I've ever driven on at night, going from downtown to the airport.

2023.06.02 21:58 -Vintersol- First time in the U.S., California
Evening guys! I‘m (european) recently planning a trip to California for 2,5 weeks this Oct./Nov. and beside of San Francisco, Sacramento and Yosemite there are no other plans for now. Since it’s my first time in the US, i wanna see a lot of different places without hurry from place to place just to check some tourism stuff. I‘m interested in nature, history, culture and good food. For Nightlife activities i‘m fine with just hanging out at a bar.
Renting a car is an option.
Any suggestions for cities or places i have to take a look at?
Also for some reason, L.A. just isn‘t on my „places to see“-list. Am I wrong about that?

2023.06.02 21:17 Dapper_Cartoonist30 How Do You Get A Job While Dealing With Major Depression / Anxiety / Low Motivation?
I’m on the verge of losing it all, and I have nowhere to turn.
Some (long, but) necessary background:
I (M24) have been unemployed and unable to find work since I graduated university in May 2021 with a BA in Public Relations.
I went to a top 20 public university, but never utilized any of the career center’s guidance or academic advisory help - for most of college I was majorly depressed and didn’t leave my room unless it was to go to the gym or go out drinking with friends (I also skipped class to sleep / nap often).
I moved back home with my parents after college where I suffered from even worse anxiety and depression.
I barely left my room, my parents would berate me for not landing any jobs, and, to make matters worse, I witnessed my older brother (27, still living at home) exhibit major psychosis after dealing with bipolar and schizophrenia for years.
He was having episode after episode, and more often than not they were violent, loud, and physical.
I was job searching while dealing with this in the household, occasionally having to call the cops when he became too violent, often saying he would k*ll my parents.
This was a very traumatic few months for me, being ‘trapped’ in the house with my brother, getting denied from job after job, and dealing with my very unsupportive parents who wouldn't listen to how I was being affected.
Within that year, I only had a couple minimum wage jobs here and there. My bank account was always below $200.
In September 2022, after a year of job searching, I moved across the country with my bf. I still had no money, but he was super supportive and was willing to float me a couple months rent - I had high hopes that the job market in San Diego would be better than it was in New Jersey.
I figured a huge change would be good for me.
It’s now June 2023 - in a span of eight months, after applying and interviewing day after day, I only landed a part-time remote tutoring role (that's now done for the summer).
I’m applying every day to full-time positions in PR, marketing, communications, every writing-related, creative-related, and advertising-related field you can think of.
Since graduation, we're talking over 1000+ applications.
I've utilized LinkedIn, Indeed, my personal network, and my university's career portal. No luck.
I get denied from every part-time position as well: serving, bar backing, hosting, retail, working at Trader Joe’s, etc. - some after interviewing, and some not.
I have no money and going back to living with my parents and brother in NJ isn’t an option.
My bf has sat me down recently and discussed how he can’t fully support me for much longer, and that I’ll need a salary if I want our relationship to continue.
So, currently on the line: A place to live, food to eat, my sanity, and my relationship.
I struggle with major depression and anxiety that affects my energy-levels, I always feel like sleeping -no amount of coffee, ADHD medicine, anti-depressants, or exercise solves the tiredness.
I’m on Wellbutrin (have tried Zoloft and Viibryd), I go to therapy, I go to the gym 5x a week, and I eat healthy, yet I still have no energy, low self-esteem, and such crippling anxiety that walking into a place to ask for a job makes me dizzy and nervous.
Even though my back is up against the wall, my motivation and hope for the future is at an all-time-low.
What do I do? How do I get a job? How can I develop the motivation I need to pull myself out of drowning?

| According to the Federal Housing Finance Agency, the US housing market increased by 4.3% in the first quarter compared to the same period last year. This represents the market’s first yearly growth since 2012. Since 1991, the House Price Index has never been higher than it is now. However, many Western states have seen a drop in prices from the previous year. Housing Prices in the Western States Utah tops the list with a loss of 4.35%, followed by Nevada with a drop of 3.6%, California with a drop of 2.86%, and Washington with a drop of 2.62%. Colorado, Oregon, Idaho, and Idaho all saw price drops. March saw a downturn in the housing market as a result of the Federal Reserve’s increased use of interest rates to combat inflation. The District of Columbia saw a 2.35% year-over-year price decline, while the Pacific division and Mountain division both saw annual drops in housing prices. - US housing market grows 4.3% in Q1, first annual growth since 2012.

2023.06.02 18:27 thewhitezeev Best way to spend this summer in SF?
I'm going through some significant life changes and decided to spend this summer in San Francisco! I spent 3 weeks in SF in May and absolutely loved my time there. I loved the museums, Corona Heights, libraries, book stores, food, and just walking around the city. I'd also like to volunteer for homeless shelters if possible because I want to know how things have gotten so bad in Tenderloin... I'm a SWE and already have tech meetups lined up which will keep me busy, but I would love to explore non tech SF side (hiking? volunteer? etc).
What are your favorite summer activities in SF that don't involve a car? (I'm aware of the cool weather in SF from June to August)
Some cool stuff I've found from searching this sub:

2023.06.02 16:15 afa00 Forgive My Excitement
Many of you have seen my posts here for the last several months. Thank you for your patience and your kind replies. My family are from the US. Between 2000 and 2009 my wife and I lived together abroad twice, but the arrival of kids and a very tight budget meant that it was domestic travel only vacations for us since that time. Mostly by car.
This year, a series of events conspired to allow us to travel internationally and we settled on Belize. I went on this sub and found out that our trip of six days six days/five nights was not enough so we talked on two more days. Still not enough, I know, but all we could manage.
So we are leaving for Belize TOMORROW and I’m super excited. I get all nerdy and giddy when I travel. I want to know as much as I can about the culture and people and try to do gather as much of the country into that trip as I can. Sadly, we are spending our time only in SI/Cayo and San Pedro/Caulker in our limited time. Next time (🤞🏼) we will do the north and south (looking w teay eyes at you, Hopkins & Placencia 🥹).
But sincere thanks to you all for induldging my earnest, random, and ignorant questions. So, here are some questions that have been swirling around my brain. None are dire. But I thought, I’d stick them up here to see if they might find some answers here and there from anyone with the tile, patience, and inclination to do so.
So, random questions:
- How much cash should we have on hand each day (3 in Cayo and 4 on Ambergris/Caulker) I know smaller bills are preferable, but I’ve only seen bits and pieces on some threads on this sub.
- You take one (packable) food ingredient back to the US with you from Belize. Something that will make cooking better back home. What is it?
- What run do I need to take home and where do I get it. I heard about Traveler’s 81? I like sipping a good sipping rum.
- I like tea a lot as well. Is there a tea that is native to Belize? Or a Maya tea? If so, where can I order it and is it available for purchasing to take with you to keep enjoying after we return. Sigh.
- What single drink do I need to try at what bar, restaurant, whatever in Caulker, San Pedro, or San Ignacio? If you make the best drink in those towns, I’ll come over if invited! 😂😂
- If you’ve traveled to Belize and returned to your home country, what is something that you have that reminds you of your trip? A small item. Besides the wonderful memories?
- Guide at Xunantunich? Or just explore on our own? I’m leaning towards a guide.
- I’ve heard the jungles are surprisingly mosquito free. Is that true? Especially this time of year (early June)?
- Is Belize a culture that barters at markets? Or is a price a price? To looking to score on a vendor. Just want to understand the culture. Thinking of street vendors selling non-food and market in SI.
- Tipping culture in Belize?
- Hot and humid day when going to guided tour at ATM. Pants still preferred given the journey (scrapes and cuts on rocks etc)?
OK. I think I’ve got it out of my system. But I might come back for more!!!

The WORST SCORERS: Now comes everyone's favorite part of the report - the list of Rotten Restaurants who scored worse than 85. I don't post any place that scores 85 or above even if they were the worst inspections for a particular week. 85 is a solid B and I don't want to shame them.
^ new stuff ^ None this week
I'm going to stick these identifiers here so that when you see stuff like (mob) and (wh) you'll have some idea of what they are talking about. I'm not positive about all of these but they're probably pretty close. If you see anything I've missed or I guessed wrong please let me know.
e - fee exempt
mob - mobile
wh - warehouse
rp - recreational park
f - fixed position?
com - commissary
tf - traveler's accommodation
L - Limited Service
If you have time on your hands and want to check out the county inspection site here's the link - https://inspections.myhealthdepartment.com/or-deschutes-county
It's a very nice community resource. Kudos to the county for making it this easy to check up on things.
We come to an end to another report. Have fun and have a great week. I'll be back again next week with more of the down and dirty.
In the mean time - any of you guys remember the Original Iron Chef show from Japan? Greatest cooking show of all time. With the absolute top staff of people that dubbed the show in English. And I'm not talking about the the re-releases where they were too damn cheap to pay the royalties to use the original music. I mean the original! I just found out that my favorite Iron Chef Chen Kenichi passed away a little while back. Here's to you Chen san. You gave MrsPNWest & I a lot of pleasure watching you cook! In honor of Chen Kenichi we will be having Garlic Chili Prawns for dinner tonight and I'm going to use Ketchup just like Chen did.

2023.06.02 15:06 Rx_530 Need Advice: Stay and buy possibly or leave
Backstory:
I am 25 and my girlfriend is 28. Combined base compensation we are at about 350k before any overtime, stocks, etc. We have about 150k saved up so far for a downpayment, no student loans and we bought our cars in cash so we save everything we can. I've always wanted to live here and decided to make the move after college, I love it, from the food, scenery, stuff to do, weather, it's great. However, I don’t know if its worth it to stay or move somewhere else. Since finishing college I have been on an absolute tear of working non-stop and living frugally to save as much as I can to stay here permanently. Now seeing the inventory available I'm starting to question if I’m making the right decision, I pretty much know nothing about the housing market but everything seems to go well above asking, regardless of location/condition. We originally wanted to buy something (townhouse or SFH) in the San Jose area since we both work in Palo Alto and the peninsula is too expensive but even San Jose seems far fetched given the current market along with many surrounding cities. Looking around the only area that we can seem to afford is Hayward/San Leandro as we don’t want to raise our future kids in Oakland. Which leads me to my boatload of questions if anyone can help it’d be greatly appreciated.
How is the Hayward/San Leandro area for raising a family? Are the schools good? Safe?
Is it worth it to buy in that area? Should we keep saving and try to buy in the South Bay eventually?
Should we just say fuck it and move somewhere further like Sacramento area (Roseville, El Dorado Hills, Folsom) or Tracy to get a large house for the kids/family with a much safer environment. Im starting to feel like me wanting to stay out here is for my benefit rather than my future family's benefit.
With our compensation and amount saved up what are the possibilities to buy in the Bay Area now or in the future?

2023.06.02 14:24 NLSTmultimillionaire The harsh reality of downtown SF
I moved to San Francisco in late 2009. I lived in a studio efficiency in the Tenderloin and had no money. Six months later I moved to the Inner Richmond. A year later to the Outer Richmond. 2 years later after working 70th s per week and not going out I purchased a new condo in Hayes Valley. A year later I purchased a 2nd condo. 6 Months later I purchased a home in Marin. I have worked in the Financial District, the Mission, Noe Valley and Russian Hill. To be blunt, I know the city.
San Francisco is a beautiful space w/ amazing history, beautiful architecture, access to nature, an abundance of delicious culinary opportunities and art. San Francisco is also closely associated with Silicon Valley, the technological innovation. No wonder we are one of the most expensive areas to live in the country. We are an amazing place. All the above being true, why do we prioritize the lives and presumed rights of those who add nothing of value to our culture, streets, lawfulness or tax base over those who work hard to live, prosper and make San Francisco a wonderful place??? It makes absolutely ZERO sense, is not “progress”-ive, is not making OUR lives better and we fucking pay enormous amounts of money to be here.
At some point, the city decided to focus more on trying to preserve the ideas of the past than progressing! We demand PROGRESS. Our downtown is literally a disgrace. It’s filthy, unsafe, full of half-dead shells of former humans who are deranged or literally out of their minds and we have completely lost our convention industry, tourism and retail because our Board of Supervisors and Mayor want to PROTECT THEIR RIGHTS! It’s fucking STUPID!
This page is a place where you can express the truth about San Francisco without fear of being banned for being critical of the absolute failure of our local government to arrest and prosecute ALL unauthorized sale of drugs and send the addicts and mentally ill into some state of conservatorship against their will to get them the help they require. If you can’t afford to live in SF, move. It’s THAT simple!
Lastly (as a starting point), our local officials should do the obvious and compile a complete list of ALL the homeless, addicted. and mentally ill living on our streets. If a new Person just shows up from out of town, we should immediately send them home on bus with a one way ticket and some food vouchers. No more inviting or coddling these bums.

2023.06.02 11:54 KepalaButuh Third City in Spain
Hi all, I'll be spending 11 days in Spain (first time) this coming December. I'm planning to spend 3 nights each in Madrid and Barcelona. Wondering if it's a good idea to go Granada as the third city since it's pretty far from the two? I've always wanted to explore the whole Andalucia so idk if it's better to leave Granada for when I come back.
I heard San Sebastian is mostly for food and wine (not super into the two when I'm travelling) and got mixed reviews for Valencia so maybe not those two. I like architecture, aimless walks and day hikes (not sure if it's a good idea in Spanish winter) so wanna know your reccos, thanks!

2023.06.02 10:55 Dapper_Cartoonist30 How Do You Land A Job While Dealing With Major Depression / Anxiety / Low Motivation?
I’m on the verge of losing it all, and I have nowhere to turn.
Some (long, but) necessary background:
I (M24) have been unemployed and unable to find work since I graduated university in May 2021 with a BA in Public Relations.
I went to a top 20 public university, but never utilized any of the career center’s guidance or academic advisory help - for most of college I was majorly depressed and didn’t leave my room unless it was to go to the gym or go out drinking with friends (I also skipped class to sleep / nap often).
I moved back home with my parents after college where I suffered from even worse anxiety and depression.
I barely left my room, my parents would berate me for not landing any jobs, all my friends had moved away, and to top it all off, I witnessed my older brother (27, still living at home) exhibit major psychosis after dealing with bipolar and schizophrenia for years.
Within that year, I had a serving job for only month before quitting, I had a one-month unpaid internship, and I worked minimum wage at a gym for 1.5 months.
That was it.
I struggle with major depression and anxiety that affects my energy-levels, I always feel like sleeping -no amount of coffee, ADHD medicine, or exercise solves the tiredness.
I’m on Wellbutrin (have tried Zoloft and Viibryd), I go to therapy, I go to the gym 5x a week, and I eat healthy, yet I still have no energy, low self-esteem, and such crippling anxiety that walking into a place to ask for a job makes me so dizzy and nervous.
Even though my back is up against the wall to get a job ASAP, my motivation and hope for the future is at an all-time-low.
What do I do? How do I get a job? How can I develop the motivation I need to pull myself out of drowning?

2023.06.02 06:49 buttons-smashing How would Pre-Despair Nagito treat Makoto?
So I'm bugged out at this question for a while.
We know post-despair Nagito would treat Makoto like a god since he's Ultimate Hope and all that stuff but if we go back to the school day era where Makoto was still the Ultimate Lucky Student like Nagito.
Would Nagito treat Makoto the same as the other Ultimates? or would he compare Makoto as a stepping stone for the more talented students to shine on?
Like if Nagito is talking smack about the Reserve course students, would he just casually mention Makoto's name when he insults them?
"You are just a stepping stone. I may be just a lowly Lucky Student but I know what my place is. I know who you are. You think you are friends with Koizumi-san but all you are is just a housefly buzzing around food. tainting it with your disgusting hands. The only place you should be buzzing around is near the garbage, where all your other trash kind belongs"
I don't care if you associate yourself with that lucky Naegi. If trash wishes to associate itself with trash, then I would care less but I do not wish for you to taint the hope within Koizumi-san. I do not understand why she would waste her time on you."
I really need to know which it is

2023.06.02 05:13 Unusual_Conflict_812 How I'm Healing my Histamine Intolerance
To start with, I don't have MCAS. But I did have pretty bad histamine intolerance last year and even up until this january. Caused by multiple deficiencies and leaky gut.
I don't recommend the chicken and white rice + cabbage diet, it's shit. I got to that few because I was terrified of getting a reaction from something, and I reacted to everything because my body wasn't getting the necessary nutrients to actually break down histamine.
Basically I focused my whole effort on eating crazy amounts of low histamine greens and very high salicylate stuff and nothing else, and gave my self salicylate problems.
What is necessary is getting enough Calcium, Vitamin C, Iron, Magnesium, B6 and other b vitamins, Copper and Zinc. Which means definitely more than just chicken, but I subscribed to the whole paleo thing and it was terrible too. B vitamins tanked, same with other nutrients.
I haven't taken DAO or Quercetin, I'm still thinking about trying them as I'm now using probiotics (that aren't HistaminX!) and I do get pretty anxious taking them. I also never took anti-histamines because they damage your gut lining and can make histamine intolerance worse. I mean if you have to do it, especially with MCAS maybe, but I just personally never did it.
What really helped in the beginning was fixing my major calcium and iodine deficiencies - ate 1000-1200mg of calcium in fortified non-dairy milks, kale, bok choy and capa cabbage.
When I didn't eat eggs I took sunflower lecithin supplements
I started with AOR Gastro Relief (zinc, ginger, vit c) as my first zinc supplement and took it in combination with HistaminX, as well as drinking mineral water like san pellegrino and Redmond's Real Salt in plain tap water.
You can also try celtic sea salt, it has lots of magnesium and calcium.
the real hero: Concentrace Trace Minerals Magnesium salt drops and Camu Camu Powder.. They taste gross but they transformed me. Very anti-inflammatory
What really transformed my guts was taking high dose zinc (140mg) for the past 6 months. I've been doing it on and off because I should have been taking copper with it (4mg), and the past month I just got my copper levels up to pretty much normal. I also take L-glutamine 1sp 2x per day, and I just started saccharomyces boulardii. It's giving me some pretty wicked anxiety though so I'm doing my best to time my supplements after the probiotics. They hold some strong promise for healing leaky gut pretty quick.
I'm struggling with b vitamins right now actually, I got covid in january and started hitting the coffee pretty bad to cope with the extreme exhaustion and the habit kept up, but my b vitamin intake didn't.
Right now I'm eating most high histamine foods no problem (not collagen yet though, and not all probiotics)
Summary of supplements:
AOR Gastro Relief
Integrative Therapeutics Zinc Carnosine
2mg Trophic Chelazome Copper
Organic Traditions Camu Camu powder
Concentrace mineral drops
Now Foods Sunflower Lecithin
San Pellegrino (and Gerolsteiner, San Benedetto)
Redmond's Real Salt / Celtic Sea Salt in water
Maine Coast Kelp Flakes (Iodine)
HistaminX by Seeking Health
AOR L-Glutamine
Now Saccharomyces Boulardii
Whole Ginger Tea
Brazil nuts
Things I did that also lowered histamine:
Meditation
Yoga
Walking and
HIIT (yes brief, but extremely antiinflammatory)
Cold showers (still feel good)
Epsom salt baths
Affirmations (LOL they work when you're struggling)
