Movie (2023) on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray is fabulous! It's even better than I remember watching it at my local IMAX theater. One benefit that I now have at home is watching this on an OLED Display. This movie strongly benefits from an OLED display, because it can give each pixel and individual color so much more pop and punch. A movie like this really showcases an OLED display and how good HDR can look.I managed to watch this movie twice, once in HDR10 and again in Dolby Vision. The movie has some light grain, so, my first thought was, I wonder how close the Dolby Vision and HDR10 versions are to each other. Typically, on straight film content, it's very close. However, the differences are enough on my professionally calibrated 77-inch LGC9 to say that the Dolby Vision version is better. Color has more control and depth. The light grain is dealt with better, it's smoother and more consistent. Black levels and color saturation also look better in Dolby Vision, and there seems to be a higher level of smoothness and control that you simply don't get in HDR10. Keep in mind that this is certainly display dependent, but, I don't believe any TV manufacturer has come close to getting HDR10 to look at good as Dolby Vision yet. Whether your TV was made 5 years ago or released this year in 2023, Dolby Vision has more control and provides the exact tone mapping that your TV needs to display everything correctly. In some cases, I've seen HDR10 looking better than Dolby Vision, but it's rare. In the case of The Super Mario Bros. Movie on 4K, please, make sure you have Dolby Vision enabled, it's 100% the best way to watch it! There is a light grain that has been applied, this gives the movie a nice filmic look. In the Mushroom Kingdom, however, it's rarely seen compared to the world outside. I like that and I think most will agree. The movie starts off looking not overly impressive (color-wise), and I think that this is intentional. It brings a blandness to the brothers' lives. The color is slightly desaturated. The movie really opens up, however, after 16 minutes when they go through the tube. At this point, it's like the HDR button has been engaged! The richness in color is something to behold. It's incredible. It's full of lushness and vibrancy. Not only that, the HDR color actually increases as the movie goes on. Once Mario and Princess Peach start training, the color pop even more, and by the time you get to the rainbow race, the HDR is oozing off of the screen. The movie really is a color demo disc, showcasing HDR and Dolby Vision. As far as I am concerned this is a must-own and is a breathtaking transfer that is relatively standard looking at the start and builds into something spectacular. WOW, WHAT A RIDE! ---- AUDIOThe audio is also excellent. There is some nice use of surround sound and height information. It's used as needed and really doesn't suffocate the viewer. I think it sounded wonderful. I found the movie to be -4db to -5db low. I increased my Denon x6500h from -10db on the reference scale to -5db, and that got the volume levels to exactly where I wanted them to be. One thing to say about movies in Dolby Atmos being lower in volume than in the good old days is that this guarantees that your audio will not clip. Some movies can be really loud at peak moments and you never want that audio to clip. This gives the sound nice headroom, and I don't mind having to increase the volume.The dialog volume is perfect. Interestingly, Princess Peach makes a comment and has to repeat it for Mario because the bikes are so loud that he couldn't hear it. If you have a good center speaker and it's set up correctly you should still be able to hear what she says. That's a nice touch. My only reason for reviewing it at 4.75 out of 5 is that the movie doesn't have ultra-deep bass. Some might say, well it's an animation, and in some cases that is true. But, I don't care what the content it is. I have to remain agnostic in my approach to giving what I think is an accurate score. There's only a certain amount of dynamic range that this movie has, and I always keep my scores as accurate as I believe they should be. The movie has bass, and it sounds really good, it just doesn't have Blade Runner 2049, Dune, or The Batman levels of bass, and movies like that have their place, and appropriate scores are given to movies like that. With that said, the mix is perfect. The music has a nice delay in the surround speakers to make it sound similar to a real theater experience. Music comes out of all speakers and it feels like it's surrounding you. I love that. The sound quality is second to none, it's really well done, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. ---- OVERALLOverall, A stunning release from Universal Pictures. They really have come a long way with their 4K Blu-ray transfers, and this is as good as it gets. This is a Dolby Vision and HDR demo disc that grows in power the longer the movie goes on. If you love great picture quality and demo scenes that push color to the maximum then this is a must-own 4K Blu-ray release for you. I don't see any streaming service being able to match this level of control and quality for years to come. This really is The Power Up Edition that we all wanted! The Dolby Atmos sound is equally impressive with excellent use of height and surround effects when needed. With gorgeous-sounding music and excellent sound quality, it makes this one hell of a release that deserves to be owned in the best possible quality. LETS-A-GO!!!REVIEW SCORES

that's pretty much all i remember from it. a kid and his tiny ghost friend, who i think was actually named "tiny ghost" or something like it, had to sneak into this action movie or horror movie. they go an ally behind the movies and get in using an air vent, but there's a dnd-like dungeon inside the vent.

I love going to the movies - I used to see like 6 movies a week at the Gateway. The thing is I don't like going into a packed movie house since COVID is still a thing. I've done it once or twice but I really don't want to get sick.
Back around the end of 2021 and through the start of the summer of 2022, I found that you could rent AMC Theaters for like $350 which meant if you got like 20 friends together who would all mask, and would chip in some cash, you could pay for it all, see a film with friends and have a safer experience.
And then AMC bumped the price up to $550 and that killed that (I had a spreadsheet and everything).
Marcus Theaters have a deal where on Mondays and Wednesdays you can rent a theater for up to 30 people for $350 so I am looking at doing that. The kicker is you need to book in advance by about a week and so I'm looking to expand the pool of people I reach out to.
Would you be willing to pay a slight premium to catch some movies on the big screen with folks who will also mask?
I'm looking at a Barbie screening because it looks wild, but I wouldn't mind catching Across the Spider-Verse on a big screen again in a week or so.

Background information: me and my husband have been together for 5going on 6 years , we got together when his child was 5 months old , she is now 5 going on 6 , we have held the primary custody for little over 3 years , the mother lives about 6 1/2 hours away and initially was allowed to take the child for the last week out of the month unsupervised, we got this taken away at court when the mother decided to keep the child for 3 months , now she has supervised visits every other Saturday , she has not made a single visit in three years , except for the one time she came to the state we live told us to meet her @ 6:30 the visit was to be over @7 so we didn’t show seeing as how she made us drive an hour the time before and never came and laughed about it , we didn’t show this time 30 minutes just seemed like it was another stand up and she wanted to meet at a movie theater on Christmas Eve to see a movie that started at 6:30 when her visit was over at 7 it didn’t make any sense.
The living situation now : my husband and I have his child with the bio mom also my minor bother and sister witch we took in over last summer ages 12 and 13 , step child is 5 We work at the same place leaving for work around 9:40 am getting home around 7:30 pm most days the oldest is home from school at 3:30 , the 12 year old and 5 year old at about 4:30 , so the oldest baby sits the 5 year old for around 3 hours on Wednesday through Friday we are home all the other days ,
The court order : as I said the mother is allowed to have a visit every other Saturday supervised , and is allowed to call through an app called AppClose that the courts made us do on Wednesday and sundays @7pm in the past we have let the 5 y/o call on her own phone when she likes
The reason the cops were called : while we were at work last week the children were home as usual all three of the kids were in the living room watching tv my step child decided to bust out into song at ther top of her lungs , she was asked to go to her room to do this by the oldest when asked this she broke out into a full on tantrum the middle child (12) then decided to take her to her room initially trying to carry her ( while throwing a tantrum) ended up scooting her to her room ( wood floors ) now step child decides to call bio mom and tell her she was drug into her room ( we have cameras ) she was not drug , either way we have had conversations about not touching eachother ,anyway the bio mother instead of perhaps calling the adult that cares for the child calls police
I just want to know opinions would you have done the same I personally know she is only trying to find something to take back to court but she hasn’t made an attempt to see the child in two years Edit : if she really cared why not take the time to visit your child in the last two years ? She has open cps cases , dealing with abuse and neglect ! Cps had to call my husband from her state to verify his child was alive that the bio mother wasnt lieing and that she had food , and running water and place to sleep ! I have no issue with cps checking in on kids , our hosue is clean kids are clean , they attend school have perfect attendance and their needs are met ! My issue is with a lack of willingness to co parent and be a damn adult about the situation!

Be prepared for a lot of sensory overload in the beginning and near the end. Most of the movie is very gentle animation and the music does a really good job of telling you when it’s going to get nuts and when the flashy scenes are over, but it’s still worth it to see in the theater. I like to sit really close so I can cover my eyes with four fingers and still see what’s going on but it diminishes the overload by like 80%. I’ve also taken a shine to Dolby Theaters because the seats vibrate which tells me when it’s going to get too intense so i can cover my eyes. It sounds counterintuitive but it works. Okay that’s all.
